What's the deal??

I don't get it, I have 225/45/18's on my car with a +45 offset rims and now after I drop the car, I rub! How is it some people who have the same exact setup don't rub? I don't rub regularly but I do when I take a turn really fast. I need to get people in the backseat to see if I still rub or not. I already have the fender tab cut off, what else is there? My fenders are already slightly rolled. It looks like I have to cut the bumper part of the fender, the plastic fender. Help??
Oh, I only dropped the car about 1.5 inches, I Jens at Park Ave to do the same drop as Comptechs. If I raise the car up a little bit, would I need to do an alignment again?

That's really weird man. With that Offset and only a 225 series tire I don't see how you could be rubbing under normal driving conditions. How fast are the turns you're taking when you're experiencing the rubbing? Is it only under hard cornering?

pretty fast...but still, shouldn't I still be avoiding the rubbing issue?? I'm going to have to have someone sit in the back to see if it rubs with people in the back seat.

You shouldnt be rubbing. I have a 2 inch drop with 235 35 19s and I dont rub. If you raise up the car a little you shouldnt have to redo your alignment assuming you DONT have a camber kit. If you do then you will have to redo it.

I'm thinking of raising it up a little bit. If your going to Honda day, you can see it for yourself how low it is, but I may raise it on Saturday morning before I go. As for my weight, I am about 200lbs so I don't think it would be I'm too fat.
See I don't get it. RacingHart, your set up seems more likely to rub them mine. You don't rub at all, even with people in the back or turning really hard?

Naa no rubbing at all and my rears are tucked under there. you can only see a little of the tire from the side. I dont think I can make it to Honda day. I am pissed. I wanted to go. I definitely want to get something together though for the spring. I am not really too into "show". I like meets better. The people are usually a little more realistic. Before I dump 30 grand into a 94 civic DX I would drive a stock TL ya know.

defenetly the tires....the sidwall is so wide...your runing the exact same tire as me...the fact that our rolling diameter is larger doesnt help either...and is another factor to the rubbing

so if I change tires and get a different 225/45 tire it shouldn't rub?
I'm going to trim the fender a little bit this weekend. How much do you think it's rubbing by?

your gonna stick with the oversize tire?....i dont know what other brands make a 225/45...but you just have to check the thicknes of a side wall...a 235/40 nitto or sumito would fit without rubing im 90% sure off...im gonna go with 235/40 toyo's next tiem around...

as for how much your rubbing by?...not sure..i never measured...i only had my rims on for 2 weeks before the end of the season...i already cut both my bumper tabs and i rub on the metal fender...do you rub on the sidewall of the tire or the thread?

wouldn't the 235/40 rub more? 235 is the width and if the width is wider wouldn't it rub? It sounds like I'm rubbing on plastic, at least that's what it sounds like. I rub right on the corner, but more on the thread. Where does your tire rub?

im pretty confident that rubbing is due to the sidewall...even tho 235 would be wider...i dont think it will be as wide as the so3...my freind has 235 sumito's on the same wdth rim and they bulge/flare out alot less then the so3's...basscially i want the 235 for extra protection...

also..i too rub right on the corner but more on the thread....but im not sure how on my alignment is...i did it myself and the car kinda rolled on me as i was seting it up, heh...

as soon as it gets allittle warmer im gonna put some masking tap on the fender to see wher eim rubbing, heat it up, and take a baseball bat to it...

that's a good idea. I'm going to try that out tomorrow. I'll put some tape on it and find out tomorrow. I'll let you know where I rub.
I still don't really know what you mean when you said it's the sidewall. Could you elaborate?

well the sidewall on the so3 is really thick and reinforced so it hadles lateral G's better (les flex)....also you notice how it sticks out further to protect the rim should you hit a curb...on my rims the sidewall comes out past the the lip of my rims...good protection...but hwta i think is the cause of the rubbing....i found 2 older posts (like 2001) where they pretty much coem to the same conclusion...msot tires come with thinner sidewalls, less reinforcment and dont come out to protect the rim...

Damn, I wanna get 235/40/18 but my wheels are 18x7.5 with a 42 offset. from what I've read these will probably rub. I'm thinking about getting the kuhmo 712s. I currently have stock suspension but plan on lowering the ride with CT, do you guys think I'll rub?

I think +42 offset will rub. I'm having trouble with the +45 so I'm assuming the +42 will rub.
I understand what njtls is talking about now with our tires, we have like 2mm of the sidewall sticking out over the rims, if it wasn't so far out, I wouldn't rub! UGH!

You might have a better chance of not rubbing with the Falken Azenis ST115s due to the rounded shoulder design:

http://discounttiredirect.com/direct...odeIndex=28721

I have them in a 235/35/19 (19x8 +49) with a CT drop and I have no rubbing issues. Very quiet tire too...

thanx for the suggestion..the reason i want the toyo's toh is cause there supposed to be really sticky and really light...the so3's i have now make my lightweight rims almost as haevy as stock setup

I wish I didn't get these tires. Oh well, too late now. Maybe I can sell them. hehe. Anyone want my tires? they are new. haha
I drove today with someone in the car and no rubbing, I think it's only when I turn fast. I hit a little dip and the car bounced but no rub. weird.

njtls, I did the tape bit today and for some reason I was having a hard time getting it to rub. I went around a 90 degree left turn at 45mph before I was able to get it to rub a little bit. Yesterday when I had my friend in the car, it was a lot easier. From what I saw, it was right at the plastic fender. I didn't get to take pics but I'll try to explain. It's the top part of the plastic bumper fender about 1-2 inches before it meets the metal body fender. I'm going to try to shave that down a little bit tomorrow and see how that goes. Hopefully I won't have to cut too much off, looks like the tire sticks out about 2mm so I'm going to cut about that much down. I'll let you know.

the reason you rub is probably due to the 45 series sidewall...you should replace your tires with 225-40-18 and you should be fine.

That's what I was going to say. You went .5" bigger in diameter with those 45 series tires. If you go with 225/40/18, you will lose .9" off of your diameter.

I originally had 225/40's but I was told that because of the diameter difference the speedometer is gonna be different also. with that, the wheels will turn differently then what the engine is used to making the engine feel like it it's always going downhill...basially turning faster then it should be. That's what the tirerack guy said. I don't know, I sorta figured out where it's rubbing, I'm going to do a little shaving there and see how that goes. I did a little bit last year but I guess not enough.
