Question Tire Recommendations

Second tire bubble in 1 month. Of course, the one that bubbled is the one most recently replaced. Since this seems to be a never ending problem, I'm considering replacing the Michelins with something else. I plan on keeping the wheels stock for now. Any recommendations? Also, excuse my ignorance, but I'm not "modification inclined." Can I increase the size of the tires on stock wheels (S-Type) without doing any harm?

Thanks

Being from the northeast, I'm interested in all season (thanks, Fidizzy)

Thanks!

I also had bubbles one of my stock Michelins and decided to replace all four with Dunlop SP Sport 9000s.

So far so good.

Everyone seems to recommend the Conti's. How is that tire? I need to replace the tires on the wife's TLS, and I'm thinking Yok ES100s. Not much of a price difference between that and the Conti's.

Opinions? Thoughts?

I would highly recommend the Bridgestone Turanza LS. They are the smoothest and quitest all season ultra high perfomance tires out there. They absolutely blow away the Michelin MXV4 in every category. Traction (wet and dry) is worlds better plus they also last longer. There was a huge improvement to the ride, smoothness, quietness, and performance handling when I switched to them. I live in the northwest where it rains all the time and I can tell you that the wet traction is excellent. I am not sure how they perform in the snow though.

I can say that the Firestone Firehawks have been the best all summer i've ever driven on.....barely any road noise.....sticks like glue in dry and wet weather....awesome tires @ only 150 each...not to mention the tread is amazing.

My vote is still for the Conti's. Main reason is cuz of the great price. Very cost effective. Amazing traction in snow and rain.

Question: Why do people pick on IANBIZ.. .I've noticed this on a lot of threads... Im just curious not looking to stir up a fight.

I haven't mounted my Dunlop SP Sport 5000's yet..but I have heard good things about them. I can't wait until my stock tires wear out so I can mount these babies!

"I would highly recommend the Bridgestone Turanza LS"
I second that opinion. Got "Turanza LS-V" last October from Tirerack and couldn’t be happier . BTW, I love Tirerack. They sent tires to the “recommended store”, that I chose from their list, half a mile from me. That f**** store installed them without balancing, and I ruined them on a trip to Montreal and back (about 700 miles, I live near Boston). My dealer told me to call them and try to get the replacement. They sent me two tires without any questions (I asked them to send to Acura dealership, which they did) and after that didn’t completely fixed the problem, they sent another pair. Also, installation by the dealer cost me less than at that f***** store ($30 vs. $40/tire).

Thanks to all of you for your replies. They've been really helpful. I greatly appreciate the welcoming treatment of a proud newbie owner of a TL-S (bought new in 7/2002, but already has 53k miles) and recently registered member of this great site.

Contis and you can put a wider tire on that rim, as I have done. a 235/45 will give you more rubber on the road with no speedo impact (.5%) and no rubbing etc probs.

It came down to the Continentals and Sumitomos for me. I went with the Sumitomo HTR+. So far so good. Is it true that the Continentals have their website stamped on the sidewall of the tire? That would be tacky.

I'm at 33k and it looks like I have 6/32nds tread left. That's about half the tread! I hope I can wear them out before summer because like PMPTXS said, I want to go with bigger rubber: Pirelli PZero Nero M&S 235/45/17s.

I've got about 55K on my stock before I replaced them with Turanza's. They were still good for, probably, another 5K - 10K. But I just didn't like them because of the noise and poor road grip.

14K, what were you driving on glass? I have 36k on my stock tires, and have about 10-12k tread left.

Wow! I just checked out tirerack.com and they pretty much cover everything you want to know about tires.

I compared the Continental Conti, Sumitomo HTR+, Bridgestone Turanza, and the Michelin Pilot HX. Is the Michelin Pilot HX the actual tire that comes with the TL? Never paid attention to it, I guess.

But overall, I may select the Turanza due to the road and noise comfort ratings. Snow traction is a bit lower than the Contis, but at least its a whole lot better than the Michelin Pilot. 4.6 compare to 7 of the Turanza...and the noise and road comfort rating being so low. I'm kinda surprised that Acura would use such a crappy tire as stock.

Tires dont start out with 32/32mds tread depth. Most are in the area of 10/32 or 12/32nds. :p

BFG Traction T/A's

My old Acura 1.6 EL had stock Michelin MXV's that were crap and had uneven treadwear. I had a friend who had stock Michelins on his Prelude and switched to Bridgestones and found it to be similar (lousy tires) to the Michelins. Honda seems to have contracted out Michelin to produce "seconds" to be installed on their cars.

Just got this e-mail. Review looks good and there is a V-rated stock size replacement for the TL- Type-S:

Conti Extremes and sell your old ones if they don't have to much Milege on them on e-bay, someone is always looking for the stocks. Only prob, you gotta overinflate the Conti's compaired to stock. I like to keep mine at around 38 PSI forbest performance. When i has them at 32 for about half a day, they felt like a boat on water, no traction what so ever. Tirerack.com had mind mounted and balanced for $8 a tire, drove em for 15 k miles now in NYC, no bubles and only one blowup do to a whole so large it bent my rims. My other rim was bent too but the tire undamaged.

I have just gone over 92 K in my MXV4's -- barely though! I would not want to go another snow storm in them, even in the wet now they do not grip very well though there is some good tread left. I need to figure out what to get soon.

I can't believe johnjohnk went 92000km on OEM Michelin tires ... I'm freaking out at 55000km (34000miles) and I still have a couple more millimeters before I reach the wear bars ...

One thing is for sure: adios, Michelin tires ... you won't see another winter again.

- derrick

PS Before I hijack this thread ... I'm most likely gonna go with one of the following:

1) sumitomo htr+
2) Yokohama Avid V4S
3) Bridgestone Potenza G009
4) Toyo Proxies 4

Not too much snow here, so I can get away with all-season tires.

Living in florida, it is one of four tires I considered.. Being that they are Z rated and come in a perfect OEM size, how could I say no when TireRack was having a sale on them $88 each plus shipping and mounting. Believe it or not, Rick Case Acura had the lowest mounting price, and they balanced them with genuine acura weights...

The tires are UNBELIEVABLE. When it starts to rain, I do not slow down.. makes the TL-S handle like a champ...
