Whats the big performance difference between dohc and sohc
I know that in dohc one cam controls intake and one cam controls exhaust, right?
But is their a major performance difference? If you had two identical cars except one was dohc and the other was sohc, would there be any noticable difference?

in the brochure for the accord, honda actually points to sohc as a desirable feature - less weight and stuff to break, more efficient. whatever...

You can tweak more performance out of a DOHC, but it is more cost and complication. But you can really play with the timings to a greater extent, get more overlap and such.
Notice the Prelude has the DOHC2.2 and the new CivicSi got it. The NSX get's a DOHC tweaked version of our engine..
Now.. honda can do with SOHC what it takes most other makers DOHC to accomplish.. which is why the big H doesn't do it in everything. Then drops a DOHC head on something and makes it a killer beast for a Si or Special Edition of something.
Go Honda.
