What would you guys do??
Hello all. I'm fairly new to this forum and just have a quick question as to what others would do in my situation. A little over a month ago I purchased a 2001 TL-P just shy of 70,000 on the odo. All original no mods at all as it had belonged to a dentist who was up in years and he traded it for a brand new one. I paid a very fair price for the car and was happy to have gotten it. I already own a 2001 odyssey and have replaced the transmission in that so I don't know why it didn't click that the TL would also have trans issues. Reading this forum obviously confirms the death of endless trannies from 2G nightmare stories. So after all that gas bagging my question is this: I have a 2 year/24k mile warranty on the car. Should I baby it and try to prolong the transmission life by using redline fluids etc whatever it may be to extend the life or maybe the opposite? As in maybe it fails in the warranty period and gets replaced for the 300 dollar deductible. As of now there seems to be no issues shifting at all. No flares or hard shifts. It seems maybe it could engage into drive sooner if you ask me but that's about it. All opinions are appreciated. I love this car and intend on keeping it until its hit by a meteor or meets a similar fate. Thanks in advance everyone!
Check if it has had the recall done with your dealer. If not, take it in to THE DEALER for a trans service. Do not do a "flush" they should be drained and filled. Blown the trans when you're about to hit the end of your warranty period.
I would strick with the new HONDA ATF
use the `accord method` to change fluid with engine running
also look at your trans for blue paint on bolt heads of bolts associated with trans--its plain if they are present
that = a warranty replaced trans,,good starting point
then determine if there is a large bolt with ATF stamped on it- on top center of trans--where you add new fluid..thats a post 2005 case with its improvements
or there is a funky fitting in that spot with a small oil line run to it,,thats pre 2005 case with recall jet kit installed
thats the recall on our trans- to install an external part,,does not do anything for early clutch wearout
do annual or more often atf change, avoid using SS to make high rpm downshifts into 3rd and 2nd,,and thats how you preserve our clutches

lol so, I've used the term "speak of the devil" before, but wow never has it been so fitting. I took my TL out today to run a few errands around the city, never went over 3K rpm. At the end of my runs on the way home, I get check engine light and TCS light on. I have a feeling this one is on it's way out. Just WOW

While it is a possibility it could be the transmission, unless there are other signs of failure don't assume it's the tranny. It could be other things as well. IMO you should find out what codes it's throwing out and try to rule out everything else before you assume it's transmission failure.
I debated with myself for almost 30 mins about getting the warranty and finally decided on getting it. Wow what a great decision. Gonna call the dealer and have it scanned ASAP. I'm the sort of a guy to say screw that warranty I'll never need it. Now I'm thanking my lucky stars.
Screw the Warranty, Get a AV6 06/07 Tranny and forget about troubles...
Anyway every time you go to Warranty Acura will just bolt up another idiotic transmission, Your best bet is to save a lil bit and get a Used AV6 Tranny it goes like 700-900bucks depending on mileage.
The AV6 has few reported issues (Most from No Maintenance possibly) instead of our nightmare trans suicide rate.
Im still on my 2nd Rebuilt original Tranny with no Jet-Kit, Once that goes the AV6 tranny will kick in.

So the ATF stamp means post 2005 for sure? My 99 has the ATF stamp on it's blue bolt tranny. Did the pre 05 case come without a fill hole or just without the ATF stamp?
Well this morning after work she took her sweeeeeeeeeeet ass time engaging drive after backing out of my spot. CEL still lit but TCS light is off now. Gonna take it to get scanned and go from there.
Well I had it scanned and all that came up was codes for misfires??? Not sure about that because I'm sure I would have felt that. I reset the light and it has not came back on yet. I just completed a 3 x 3 drain and fill. Fluid was pretty used. I'm guessing few years old. Magnet on the plug had a little sludge but not much at all. I'm guessing it's original transmission as I have an oil jet installed on it. Now fluid is bright pink and fresh so at least that has been done. Have any of you read the thread on "optimal balance" and if so what do you think about that??
