I would suggest you try different brands of same octane fuel and see which one is the best for you.

I use Cheveron because it's rated one of the cleanest fuel in Canada. And I stick with factory recommendation(92 Octane), and found it gives me more MPG compare to 94....

You will definitely get better MPG with higher octane. Spending more for premium actually saves you money in the long run because of improved MPG

Correct me if I'm wrong, AKRY, but isn't the only brand in Canada that has 94 octane to be Sunoco? I have tried it a couple times in my old car and I found the stuff to be sh*t. (pardon my French)

Personally, I think Sunoco's 'top of the line' fuel is nothing more than a marketing hoax. The Optimax Gold at Shell has given me good performance and fuel economy-- Air Miles too!

That's my 2 cents.

Question What type of octane gas to use?

I keep hearing different recommendations on type of gas to use for 2002 TL-S. Some say its the detergent or cleaner, others say its the same gas for all U-76, Chevron, Shell, No name brand.

Cool

Hehe Sunoco?? Eh? Huh? Never heard of it.. Maybe it's in the East Coast??

Cheveron, Shell,Petrol Canada, and Esso(I think, not sure about this one)all has 94 Octane fuel. But I stick with Cheveron. Cheveron and Arco were said to have the BEST(cleanest)fuel in Canada(statistic done in 1999/2000), however, I found that some of the Arco stations ain't selling too good a gas. Try them all with my Jeep, and I get various MPG with different Arco stations...

It's Cheveron(if no Cheveron, then Shell or Petrol Canada)all the way...

Yet, we only got Sunnoco Ultra 94 here. I always put 94 in my car, and hope that I am not just burning my money...

Lack of competition sucks...

There are a lot of Sunnoco's in Toronto. Never of Cheveron though. Is that a West Coast company?

I have tried to find a gas station that actually sells 91 octane gas but tehre aren't any. I have been using Exxon 93 Octane because it is close to my work and Mondays and Wednesdays you get 6 cents off per gallon. The way I drive in this car I need all the help I can get! I am looking at about $2.00/ gallon before the 6 cents discount.

Yep Chevron is out west, stay away from Shell and Arco. A local guy who mixes and tests racing fuel for some of the local clubs distilled a quart of water from 1 gallon of Arco gas.

I've been using Shell from my corner station for 18 years -- I've never gotten a bad tank of gas. (I do tank up on some Chevron from time-to-time and grab go for a Techron fix).

(And I never go to Arco -- have always had bad luck with the people at their stations. The price is always cheaper too...)

It is better to know a reputable gas station and stick with it, than to wander about trying new stations all of the time. They did a bunch of TV expos here a while back, and some of the dealers were mixing in all kinds of crud in their gas, and rigging pumps.

Another important rule of thumb I've always followed is the brand of gas isn't as important as how busy the station is. A brand name Mom & Pop store may have a lower price but if they serve four cars a day, you gotta wonder how long the fuel sits in the tank, whether or not any additives have begun to separate, and what kind of crud and/or contaminates are at the bottom of the tank before they get their refuel. Busy stations go through gas stock fast enough that contamination is not usually an issue.

Of course, 91+ octane (no such animal in MA, only 93) is always recommended. Higher compression engines require it.

Most every station has 91 - you just need to be a bit creative!

Octane ratings are a linear scale, so they can be combined. If you take 5 gallons of 93 octane, and 5 gallons of 89, you will end up with 91 octane.

(93 + 89)/2 = 91
