What tranny problem

Sup guys, hate to jinx myself or anything, but wondering which yeared Tlz are having the tranny problem, i ve got a 2000 TL-P , m i safe ? or what. Besides um new to the forum so not familiar with this problem , just thought i should ask, coz i see all these threads about tranny failure and tranny problems. The only concern that i have with my tranny is when i put it in reverse and back the car it makes a clank noise once every now n then. . Should i be concerned? by the way i bought my car used and now it has got 85k miles on it :-D thanx to weekend trips to NYC.

I know the sound you are talking about. I got the same noise before my tranny started acting up. Just monitor it. Good Luck!

What should i do , take early precaution and check with the dealer or call Acura asking if my tranny has been recalled yet?

Take it to the dealer and have them inspect it. You are covered until 100K with the Warranty Ext. So, if you are close to that in mileage I would take it in ASAP. Acura now also has a oil jet kit fix for second gear also. The form has details about this also. I just got my recall notice for that in the mail this week. I am not sure if it applies to replaced trannies already. I am gona call the dealer to inquire about it. Just as an FYI before my tranny went bad it started skipping gears 2nd to 4th and etc. I drove the car home and then to dealer in Sport Shift Mode, it was better then having the car skip gears. Good Luck!

man, now you got me worried too....i have a 2000 TL with 86k on it and I've always remembered a faint "clunk" everytime I go from prk to reverse, but I don't really remember it anywhere else...you guys think me and jack_n_coke should just go to the dealer and get a loaner and let em work on it?

as far as i know my car is under no such warranty right now, but i m gonna check with the dealership today or may be even call the Acura Assistance line or something to find the fact, and to see if my car is on the recall list as well.

I think the slight clunk going from drive to reverse is normal. The tranny failure symptoms are more serious such as dowmshifting from 5th to 2nd; tranny not engaging; tranny lights and VSC light will engage or flicker--there is a list of symptoms that are discussed in detail on the CL board.
