i dont know exactly what u get with a tl-p, all i know is that u dont get 17 inch rims, and body kit. plus smaller engine size and vsa. plus all other options...
things u get wit a type s u dont get wit a premium, al though u get the navi n such.

Premium is just the name used to differentiate the standard TL from the Type-S which came out in '02. Why "Premium"? The car is an Acura, Honda's luxury brand so why not give it the nicer designation.
The engine size is the same for the whole 2nd gen ('99-'03), just the Type-S has some differences that makes it produce 35 hp more than the standard model.
The kit for an '02-'03 will fit all TLs for those years, TL-P or TL-S.
Although similar in function, VSA is different from TCS.

Like others stated its just a name. You dont get any other features. Its the base TL.
As for Pearls in paint, they dont make the car shine. Pearls are another layer added to the paint for added effect. Look at the White Diamond Pearl TL or the white caddies you see driving around. That is the perfect example of pearl. Pearls can come in Many different colors, and if painting something can be added to the paint to add mre effect. What makes teh car shine is Clear Coat

The way this thread was handled before TLMugen's post was disappointing! If you don't know the answer, why post? I couldn't believe the things I heard.
As a final tidbit, according to Acura in 2003 or 2004 none of the names "TL, RL, NSX, CL, RSX, MDX" mean anything.

TL is just the name of the car right? As far as I know, it doesn't mean anything. The P, as stated above a few times, just differentiates the standard TL from the type-S. That is all Nothing to do with colors or anything. I think people are still guessing as to what the letters mean, but I doubt it means anything now or ever.

The TL used to come with a premium package. It was later made standard, but the designation stuck.

'99-'01 was officially called just "3.2TL".
With the redesign for '02-'03, the Type-S package was available, and to differentiate the non Type-S model, the word "Premium" was used. Then the term was also used to describe the '99-'01 3.2TL's, as well.
Type-S package was available for about 2,000 dollars, which included perforated leather on seats, door panels ('03 only, if I remember right) and steering wheel, 35 extra horsepower due to many changes to the engine and engine management, vehicle stability assiast, sportier suspension by way of shock damping, steering type and rate, stabilizer tuning, and bigger wheels with sportier tires. Personally, I've never seen so many upgrades for a mere 2,000-dollar package. It was a bargain. On a BMW or Mercedes, an equivalent upgrade package would cost triple that, easily.
VSA is different from TCS, because TCS only regulates traction issues up to a certain speed. It is mostly used for traction off the line in inclement weather. VSA is a step up from it, utilizing yaw and speed sensors to analyze vehicle movement in comparison to steering wheel, and throttle/brake input, to stabilize the vehicle's direction and movement and set it on the intended path. TCS can not perform these tasks.
Ground effects and navigation were available as options on both the Premium and the Type-S models.

A-Spec was a special offer that only existed in Canada. Just before Acura introdued 04 TL's, they brought back A-Spec trim beginning Spring of 2003. A-spec's were Type S and equipped with skirts, and JDM(Japanese Domestic Market) wings that has two lights both ends of the spoilers. It came with JDM Sabre rims, and side markers. It also had special interior: black and blue interior. The headlight housing was matched to the car's body color. A-Spec was only offered in ABP and EBP. As oppose to 04+ Acura's which A-Spec trim offers better suspension and brembo front brake system, 03 A-spec didn't come with any performance package. A-spec was a little cheaper than Type-S with full skirts on as option. It was more like a Limited edition of Type-S.
