What are some of the signs of a bad tranny?
I'v been reading about trannies going out and being replaced, but what are some of the first signs that I would look for?
I drove a 98 Exploder for the last few years so it's hard for me to notice any suttle problems that may be occuring.
I do notice some surging of the car when I'm slowing down and turning a corner. It fills like I've hit the gas a little, but I haven't.
I've also noticed that when I let up off the gas around 50 to 60, it often feels like the car is downshifting.
I'm not really sure if these perceived problems are even issues.
Any help would be appreciated.

when the car has come to a stop at a red light or whatever, and u feel a sudden jerk. or when its slipping (meaning when you accelerate, it'll just rev before going) those were the signs i got when my trannies died!

It sounds like what you are feeling is your torque converter locking and unlocking as you ease on and off of the gas. This is perfectly normal and nothing you should worry about. From what I've seen posted on this site, most tranny problems start with slipping (You try to accelerate and it revs with out going forward) or some bad grinding and clunking. I think you are OK for now.
