What should I do?
What should I do?
Hi guys,
I don’t know which approach to take to a couple of maintenance issues.
My car is a 2000 TL with 85K miles. My car is over on time for the timing belt change, but under on miles. Dilemma, do I pay for parts ($300 OEM) and pay a local mechanic to do the work (under the table while off of work $250 labor), or do I pay acura $1150 (next dealer is 300 miles away).
The only reason I am considering acura, is that my tranny when cold is slow to shift, but when warm shifts fine (has acted the same since purchased from little old lady @ 58K miles and fluid was changed at 79Kmiles). My rational is that if I purchase the timing belt package through acura, it would help with coverage on a goodwill tranny.
What do you guys think I should do?
Thanks for any input.
Jason

take it to the dealer and say it shifts funny- let them decide if it needs a trans before you give them money on other work
Look for a local honda/acura private shop- who will charge a little more than your buddy but will know exactly what they are doing
Its not a difficult job- just no room for your hands- with skin- to fit
