What is the purpose of this piece?

Hey, was replacing the lens with Lexan, and wanted to ask you guys if you know what the purpose of this gay circular grey piece is?? What does it do?? It looks like it goes around the bulb and just channels the light out in a certain way, but I feel that it prolly blocks off a lot of light. I want to remove it if it increases light output, not if it decreases it. Let me know. Its the piece thas circled.

Thanx!

That's about right. It keeps the light on the ground where it belongs. Removing that piece will scatter the light where ever it wants. I think it would definitely brighten the road but like njtls said, other drivers would be pretty pissed!

I would suggest you leave it alone. You'll mess up the beam pattern.

I removed mine when I replaced my glass with Lexan a few months ago just to be different. And yes, it does scatter light more. :p

So If I remove it, then are you saying that IM going to melt my housing? That doesnt make sense.. or does it? What Alexx proposed makes more sense in a previous thread, about how that it is the refelctor, that reflects light onto the road.

IM SOO CONFUSED!!

If you remove it your chromed reflector(chrome paint) will slowly start to get crack and flake away!.
