Wink What Other Car Owners Say

I've read the threads here from people complaining about their cars citing everything from transmissions to paint to rotors. After a very long rant they usually end with something like "I can't believe I've had these problems with a $30K car and I would/have never these problems with Lexus/BMW/Nissan or whoever."

I spent about 10 minutes checking out a couple of other forums to see what their owners are saying. And guess what, substitute the word Acura for BMW/Lexus/Nissan and the posts are all exactly the same! With a little more research I'm sure you can find the same info for all makes.

Read the threads below at your leisure - seems that no one can make a decent car if these posts are to be believed. Or there's just a small percentage of common problems that all manufacturers experience.

What's it all mean - who knows. Look for my favorite quote that seems all too familiar "when i pay 55k for a car...i can complain as much as i want about any detail that exists. All the other cars that i have ever driven had much more solid feeling doors...If you dont care about the fit and finish of a car, go drive a ford or gmc. I have higher standards. In addition, i get clunking....which everyone gets....and it seems that there is some road noise from the ****ty radio. I could be wrong...perhaps the whine at low rpm comes from something else..." - BMW Owner

hahha, it's nice to know we are paying less for the same kind of car?

serious though, i think it's always the case that all cars have their own problems. just that we are grouping up here and it seems we have more problems. but by lurking other sites you see just as many issues.

Seriously though. Given enough time im sure the owner of a BMW Z8 can find things wrong with his/her car. Man, people sure complain about the silliest things. All cars have problems. Its a given. Some are worse than others, and some just get plain lemons. Its a fact of life. But oh well.

Me, i like the car for what it is. A great car at a great price with loads of features and plenty of power. And its made by a very reputable company.

Acura TLP/TLS lovers of the world..unite and take over...

everyone's problem

It's comforting to know that all the other cars out there suffer from quality issues too.

Looks like every car manufacturer out there is suffering from poor paint quality now due to new environment regulations on paint production. Chemists of the world better hurry up and find a new paint formulation soon, or all the cars on the road will be paint chipped and rusty before you know it.

Guys,

PLEASE don't get me wrong about this thread, I know I am new but I was just wondering...........

I can't seem to find an option on our forum that allows us to set up our view as we saw in the IS300, BMW, and the Nissan forums.

Isn't there any way to get just the text like we saw on the other furms, I mean if I want to see pictures of someone car, I will be more than willing to click on a link to check out their car. But just to go through almost 20-20 pages of a printout over one thread because of pictures (some very large) is a little extreme, isn't it??

I can't even see some of the threads in front of my kids because there is a "stripper" dancing on the screen.......

Great thread!

I couldn't agree more - I often think this Whine-Fest is made up of people who live in a Bubble (or still live with Mom and Dad who make the payment on their cars). This thread confirms that is not the case.

Still, we often get this scenario:
1) Someone states a gripe ("My rotors are shot")
2) Someone says, "So are mine".
3) Someone posts "Why is Acura producing shoddy rotors?".
4) Someone posts, "I am contacting NHTSA about the dangerous killer rotor problem!".
5) 48 Hours does an investigation: "Acura - killing its customers?"
6) Congress begins hearings on the Acura Rotor Crisis
7) The President blames Acura's killer rotors as a terrorist act
8) Acura owners are surcharged by their Insurance companies
9) Attorneys learn of the rotor "opportunity"
10) First liability case is filed "Acura-TL.COM vs. Honda Motor Company"
11) Class Action suit filed in Florida by people claiming that "incipient rotor failure anxiety syndrome" kept them from voting for Alphonse Gore
12) California 4th Circuit Court certifies the "US vs. Honda" case where Federal Govt attempts to recover rotor damages
13) Honda-Acura files for protection under Federal Bankruptcy protection statutes
14) Honda folds, owners left in lurch, start dumping TL's in trade for Hyundai's.

LOL! Great response and not that far from the truth. Glad I got my rotors fixed before they became a threat!

Don't forget the rattles. People will start turning up their stereos, which will cause them not to hear an emergency vehicle! I'm probably giving someone an idea.

It reminds me of a story I read in Automotive News where a women was suing Hyundai claiming that their vehicles are unsafe after she lost control and her car flipped.

No big deal right? Until you hear the rest of the facts. She was driving with her cat in the car unsecured. The cat got spooked, jumped into the drivers lap which startled the driver and partially obscured her view. The driver then lost control, swerved on the shoulder, couldn't regain control of the car and it flipped.

Hyundai is such an evil company!

Good One RR.

All cars have problems and on forums like this what are you going to get daily posts from people all just stating "My tranny, paint, interior, brakes, trim pieces, etc, etc are all fine"??? No you'll only hear about the problems. And even though it seems like we hear alot of complaints, keep in perspective that the TL is the #1 seller in its class. The problems are in the vast minority.

If some let the paint (not an Acura issue) and minor rattles drive them nuts and think that getting x brand car is the solution, please check out that car and see if it has a flawless review before going through, you may regret it, who's to say that next car may drive you more bonkers than before.

Where are all the people talking about the so vastly superior Lexus paint job?? Seems they are complaining about Soft paint also......... Hmmmmm like I said its an issue with the paint manufacturers (dupont) due to EPA regulations, not an auto manufacturer issue.

Sarj,

Just go to the "userCP" section of the forum. There you can turn off signiture view and you wont get the ending signitures of peoples posts. There are also other ways to customize the views in there. just take a look and see what suits you. Hope this helps

While it's true that every mechanical device created by people will have faults and flaws, I guess I just expect that for tens of thousands of dollars that the engineers could do a better job. It's like how people complain about Microsoft rushing products to market and letting consumers find all the bugs so that they can issue a patch or better yet another full-price version.

Acura and Lexus seem to understand this better than other carmakers--they have staked out their claim in the marketplace based on the quality and reliability of their products. So I don't really blame car owners who complain about things that just plain shouldn't be wrong. I blame the car companies that use the excuse, "Well, all cars will have problems..."

True all cars have problems. However I visit and post in oh maybe 10+ forums and some cars either have more problems or the owners just ***** more. Hell some forums have WHOLE FORUMS deidicated to problems (some specific). So you will see problems at all car forums but some JUMP at you.

Some people are just plain SLOOOWW. It's not about Lexus/Acura/BMW sometimes, it is the dumb person posting dumb crap.

For instance the paint issue. I drive 80mph on a daily basis. Commuting all over Atlanta. I know the roads here suck. There is debris everywhere. If I am driving a lot and the roads have all sorts of crap on em OF @#$%^&* COURSE THE PAINT WILL CHIP off the hood some. Duh, but I know this is the case, not the paint. If you want your car to have no imperfections YOUR SCREWED cause lying around in a garage is no good either.

Buy your car and enjoy it, know what you bought and stop tripping so dahm much.

I've got you beat...
Someone on the CL board complained that when his window was open and the car was wet, the water sripped in... he said it was a design flaw. Now we have the GTP blokes there ann mad at us because... I don't know....

U2 - you too kind.

Had fun with the rotor scenario, but the Water Dripping rant is giving me an idea for a sequel. It starts as a drip, but ends with a tidal wave destroying new York, like that recent movie with Morgan Freeman: "Deep Impact" was it?

And of course it is all Acura's fault, or because the water was not Made in Japan. BTW, my wife owned a 1978 Tercel - that was made in Japan too - let me tell you about the paper carburetor and other Nipponic gems.

Nameeri,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I totally overlooked this feature that was available and have implented it immediately. It is so much better to not to be worried about my children seeing a stripper dancing while I am trying to get information about my MPG problems, thanks again!
