what is oil jet?? to buy or return a tl-s @ end of lease...

OIL JET::
sorry for this newb question, but searching gave me posts that only mention oil jets.
i don't know what they are...

LEASE::
my 2002 tl-s is coming off of lease soon, and i need to decide whether or not to buy it.
i had my transmission replaced in 2002 @ ~20k miles. (i got my tl in 2001).

right now, the car has 82k on it and the tranny is alright.

i don't want to buy a new car, but i don't want to have problems again after 100k miles...
but it's hard to find out when i will have problems until i actually have one, right?

what would you guys do in my situation?
BUY? or RETURN?

Never EVER go into a lease expecting to buy the car at the end. You usually end up paying sales tax twice, among other issues.

I think you'll find that you can lease another car for the same monthly payments if you were to buy this one and finance it.

Maybe i didn't make myself clear...
I am well aware of the financial aspects of leasing and their implications...
That is *not* what i need your opinion on...

What i am asking is about the car...
what your thoughts are on how reliable they'd be past the 100k mark.

i like to keep this tl and run it down as a beater. (YES! after i finish the payments!!)

and since i don't want another lease, i will end up buying a car...
"so why not this one" is what i'm sayin!!

well it wouldn't be a very smart idea.....i leased a 01 accord EX-V6 and at the end of the lease, if i had bought the car total cost of the car would've been 32 thousand something.....

why don't you just FINANCE a 05, and just turn your TL in....

Don't keep the car. Return it. Without the transmission problem, then Yes, because TL is a nice solid car. but, with the transmission known problem, flaw in designed that people are having repeatedly, even up to the 4th one. There isn't a permanent fix for it. That's why they are fixing it slowly on the ones that broke, and hope every TL will eventually be out of warranty. It is a time bomb, and you will end up paying extra $3000-$5000 to fix it out of your pocket. Extended warranty is their smart way to buy time from consumers. Buy the time it broke, they will tell you "sorry, it is not under warranty". They should fix it regardless of warranty, but they don't. Breaking down is bad; however, if you are lucky enough that it broke down before 7yrs/100k then I think you will be covered. but don't count on it because you will have to pay for other things to get youself going without your car. Return it.

Exactly what acutee said. I only have 37k on my 02 tl-s right now but once I get past the 7year/100k warranty, I'm selling her! It's not worth keeping a car that you need to worry about. No doubt TL's are excellent all around cars but will you be willing to fork out $2.5-3k if the tranny craps out on you again? You asked for our opinions and it seems like everyones telling you to return it. Go look into the 3rd gen TL's or any other ones you're interested in. If you love the 2nd gen TL so much you can always buy another one with lower miles. Good luck with your decision.

i traded in my 02 tl-s as well; went through one tranny replacement at about 51k. although it was pristine and modded to perfection, i didn't want to chance it considering there is no "end all" fix for the tranny. if you are willing to risk it and pay out of your pocket to fix the tranny (and fix as many times as needed) or willing to take whatever money you can get (ie, sell the car) once the tranny blows out, then go for it because it's one heck of a car.

the oil jet TSB is basically adding an additional stream of oil to cool down one particular gear, i believe it's 2nd.

to answer your question, this is what a oil jet is

it squirts tranny fluid at the 2nd gear shaft to give it more lubrication and keep it cooler

as for to keep the car or sell it, you have to look at what the buy out price compared to the mileage charge that you will have to pay for being over the limit if you trade it in. i have 171,000 miles on mine and love it, and plan on driving it into the ground

<<right now, the car has 82k on it and the tranny is alright.>>
Well let's see, at 4 years old you should have from 48,000 to 60,000 miles, so do the math. At 48,000 you are over by 34,000 miles times .15 cents per mile you will owe $5,100 and at 60,000 miles you will owe $3,300. Plus any excesive wear and tear, tires, dents, etc. You only pay tax on the amount of the vehicle that has depreciated over the life of your lease. Where they get you is the rental charge which is probably around $6,000, (As I did with my 2002 TL-P) When you refi for the purchase you will only pay tax on the residual value with an interest rate around 6.5%. I am looking at this very thing now with my lease up in July. I only have 35,000 miles on a 48,000 lease. I can refi the remainder of the car, $16,600 at 6.5%for 48 months and that $393 plus tax per month. Or I can buy a new Accord EX V6 for $26,000 at 2% for 60 months and that puts me at $455 plus tax. I am under the mileage while you will be hit HARD with fees. Now I just have to decide, TL or Accord EX V6. I will more than likely stay put, I already got shafted with the big rental fee, I love the look of the TL, there are 100 Accords on the road for every TL you see, TL has HID, both have the same level of comfort features- leather, moon roof, 6 disc changer etc, Accord has the HP rating but in 1/4 mile time and 0-60 I think its pretty negligable. The TL should easily, as well as the Accord run over 150,000 miles, although I won't own it that long. See ya on the road in your TL. I don't think you will be sorry by sticking with the TL, at least its not a FORD!!!!!

good to see some positive response as well as negative ones.
i decided that it'd be 50/50 chance of mine going wrong again, so i'll just keep it.

the reason for keeping it is the following...

c-town figured me out!! LOL!!
