Question What mods to get???

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and I need your help, so please bare with me. I have a 1999 TL and its warranty is over so I thinks its time to put some new mods in. I wanted to know what mods are good in terms of actually producing measurable performance gains (ie. HP or torque). I'm interested in anything related to the intake and exhaust systems. If you could post some suggestions regarding part, brand, price and performance gains that would be super. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Noticable power gains are headers and intakes..... if you dont want an intake then u can get a drop in filter which gives you the same power gain.

If you want performance gains then definitely get I/H/E (intake, headers, exhausts). A lot of guys here have all three and it does make a difference. I only have the AEM CAI and I already feel a difference. I am planning to get the other two later on.
But whatever you decide to buy, go to www.autocarparts.com and buy it from Tim. He is the owner of this great site and his prices are the cheapest around.

Thanks for the reply Black Shadow.
This may sound dumb. Do I need to make any significant physical alterations to the car when installing the AEM intake or is it a simple add on?? Since I'm a novice at all this stuff I guess I need someone else to put it in for me.

I/H/E should be your first step then pulleys (if available) and spark plugs (Denso Iridium)!

I too have not made a single mod to my 01 TL, however I am interested. What is the biggest difference between the AEM CAI and the drop in Comptech filter? Somebody mentioned that the produce the same HP increase. With the Comptech air filter costing $60 and the AEM CAI costing close to $260 when all is said and done why pay the $260??. What kind of HP increase can you expect from the drop in filter? Is it noticeable?

For performance definitely go with an AEM intake, either CAI or Short RAM.

The AEM Pulleys give nice gains as well with no additional noise. May not be good if you have a large stereo though.

The Denso Iridium spark plugs were awesome on my car and I highly recommend them as well.

The CompTech Headers are expensive but give a nice boost in performance. If you are on a budget hold off on these guys.

For handling, I'd definitely start with swaybars!!! Man these things rock! They will reduce your body roll a lot and won't your ride quality.

Oh yea, and make sure you buy everything from Tim at www.autocarparts.com

From what I understand, CAI would provide the most HP gain, followed by short RAM filter, followed by drop in filter (if I'm wrong, somebody correct me please). Because the CAI provides the most HP gain, it therefore costs more.

How about a free mod?

Works great with an AEM SRI!
