What is that metal thing?

Question What is that metal thing?

I've always wondered what is under that plastic cover, that covers the whole top of our engine, well the other day when i washed it i took it off, and it looks ugly as sin. what is that metal cover in the center, that has 10 bolts holding it down, it gets really really hot? whats under there, i didnt take it off, i didn't know what it was???

I think you're talking about the intake manifold. That cover is the top of the manifold.

If, in your travels through this board, you hear the term RES, it refers to a modified cover that some guy on this board is trying to have made.

Engine these days have a plastic cover to cover the wires, engine, etc. You should just leave it alone unless your going to work on your motor. Take a look at Audi, BMW, Mercedez, Lexus, they all have a plastic cover. It's there for looks and to prevent dirt.

it is actually a plennum cover, the manifold is lower down
