What improved transmission?
Alright, there's much talk circulating this forum regarding the improved replacement transmissions (5-speed) being installed beginning in 2005. Supposedly, these new transmission integrate an internal oil jet and include improved friction materials to combat clutch wear issues?
Two days ago, I talked to my transmission guy about these units. He agrees that that an internal oil jet has been included with the newer 5-speed replacement units, but tells me that he isn't aware of any drastic change in the friction materials being used to combat wear problems. I called up Certified Transmissions, a major remanufacturing facility in the Midwest, and was given the same information.
So, can anyone actually verify for me that the friction materials have actually changed?
TIA.

I've have seen any description of what was changed in the "February 2005" transmission revision. That's an interesting question. The installation of an oil jet kit was part of an earlier recall in, I believe, 2004.
I would also check with Acura since they designed the transmission. Maybe non-Acura transmission shops aren't aware of the latest changes.

The friction material didnt change. The infor i saw from the tranny shop and them calling who ever it was said it was a shaft and the plates themselves. I saw the plates and they appeared to be different than what they had pulled out

That's interesting!
And I meant to type "I've have not seen any description of what was changed...." above. But this evil forum software won't let me edit that. ;-)
