Post What if someone scratched your car?

Today somebody sratched my car for 1 inch. Not so deep. How much do you think it will cost to repair? It is on the left door.

Thanks a lot.

Was it an accident?

If not...

LLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEET'S GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEE!!!!

if the it was just on the clearcoat, then you should be able to take car of it with some scratch remover or something. I dunno,I think I would cry if I got a scratch on my car..

Would insurance companies cover my car if it gets keyed? I'm not up on all that insurance stuff.

My guess is that you could file a claim under your policy, but by the time you pay your deductible, it's probably enough to cover the cost to repair. So you are probably better off not getting it fixed under your policy b/c it's going to affect your rates down the road if you go through your insurance company.

if it wasn't your fault then your rate will not go up.

to truly get it back to the way it use to look. u'd probably have to paint the whole panel. touching up will do ok. but at times will be noticible.

first i would see how much it will cost to fix it, if it is more than your deductable then i would claim it on your insurance, that would be a comprehensive claim, which means it's not a collision and not your fault, so your insurance prices won't go up, but if it costs less than your deductable, i would just take care of it myself,

i recently just had my whole passenger side and hood painted over because some assh**e keyed it deep, my insurance took care of it and my deductable for comprehensive was $100

Thank you for all the comments. It is my neighbor who did it. He said he will call his company today. But he also said maybe it is to small a scratch for the insurance company to take care of it. Oh, my baby, I just got it several days ago.

He said I also should call my insurance company if his insurance company will take care of it. Is that ture? It is the first time I met such a thinng.

Thanks for all the information and help.

have him pay for it...it's too small to be more than the deductable...and you don't have to call your insurance company...it was his fault, your insurance company has nothing to do with it...it's all on him...and i'd also make him mow your lawn for the summer...

here in michigan we have no-fault insurance, which means regardless whos at fault your insurance will take care of the repairs, but they also have a law called per-diem, which states that if you are not at fault, you can make his insurance company pay the deductable up to $500!!

Do you think the insurance company will not take care of it because the scratch is not big enough, about 1 inch long? Thanks a lot.

If he want to settle it by outself, how much he should pay me? Thanks a lot.

One more question, what do you think of a car cover? Will that help to prevent the scratch?

Some comments please.

They are great for snow/hail/ice. Used one this weekend. If you have a drive way, its pretty good, I wouldn't put it on if your car is in the street because it will attract attention and D***S will do something to it. I really wish I had a garage. Probably 90% of the damage (scratches/dents) will come from parking lots, especially school/mall/food shopping center. I'm pretty sure the guy who prepped my car scratched it up. There is a deep 1 inch cut on the roof, dealer said they would sent it to a body shop to be repainted, and then later on I found 2 long cuts on the hood near the wipers, 1 circlar and 1 straight scratch on the spoiler, and 2 light, but long scratches on the door. I think the idiot with the buffing machine messed it up. Stupid @$(*@&#(!*&(!*&#($@&(*@%&(. Other than that I like that car alot so far.
