well heck if this was all about speed, why not get a used supra turbo, upgrade to blitz turbo and smoke everyone on the street? or, if you wanted a fast honda, why not get civic h/b and put b18c motor? or h22a? A guy in houston did that (jackie @ carboy) and his shit was fast as...

now that you havea tl, there can be another option. hopefully the'll make a supercharger for those of us who need crazy speed. add nos kit. with the s/c alone you'll probably be 315 hp. Accords are not the honda way to go for speed.

Red face

My previous car was a 1997 GS-R that had *extensive* work done to it, including a turbo kit.

375+ horsepower in a 2600 pound car was a ton of fun, no doubt. But unless you're ready to deal with the compromises involved with turbocharging, don't even bother.

Its never all about speed. For a shade over 2 grand I can do 0-60 in 4 on a used sport bike. Its never all about luxury either otherwise we'd all be riding in limo's.

Every car question can digress into the 'get a supra' argument. I picked the Accord because it shares 60% of the parts in the TL, looks a lot like the TL and has the reliability of a Honda has enough room to haul some people and some cargo, and isn't 7 years old. Same can't be said of a Supra, much less a superbike. (Besides, there are far from enough supra's to go around. 7500 TT's were made from 93 to 97)

Not really, a GSR goes more than an I4 EX cord. Besides, the point was to have some TL blood in there. Being based on the same global midsize platform, the Accord has nearly the same room as the TL. You can't say a civic or teg will haul as much stuff as an Accord or TL will. And IMO, other than a JDM Type R, a well done Accord Coupe is the best looking Honda in the bunch.

Why not just get a motorcycle if all you want is speed? Do you regret your TL? Every vehicle is a compromise...

I don't know... I think the improvements over the Accord in the TL are worth the extra money. You think that extra money would've been better spent modding an Accord? I don't know if I agree...

While there are considerably more mods for the Accord than the TL, I've loved modding my TL. Though, you say you want some serious speed... I'm not so worried about that, while I am doing i/h/e because I like speed, I sure as hell don't want to bend a 19" rim for no reason!

I can see the advantages of going with an Accord, though I feel you already made the right choice.

Kenny,

I got your back! I'd definitely go with the LX... none of that auto climate control BS or sunroof/moonroof. Although, the i4 LX's do leave off some of the goodies that come with the V6 LX like the power adjustable seats, cruise control (the i4 LX might have cruise control) and ABS.

Frr my next car its probably gonna be b/w the TL-S and the S4, but I'm honestly leaning more to the S4 because its has all the luxuries the TL has, and unlimited performance potential with the AWD and twin turbo from the factory. Its definitely smaller than TL-S but its still large enough that I don't feel like I'm driving around in a death trap. Go check out the web site and tell me you don't fall in love: http://www.audiusa.com/cars/s4/

Keep your head up and don't let all the party poopers get you down!

I dont really regret buying the TL. Its just that I'm young, and if I were to do it over, unless I got a Type S with the Nav, I'd go down a notch in status for the fun factor of an I4 5 speed (with a turbo hehe).
The best thing would be pulling on Type S's...

Bnut, yeah man I hear that. The LX I4 is pretty damn light. some 200 lbs lighter than the V6! That'd be nice for handling. Get a set of NEX coilovers and run the dampers to the highest setting, and rip those streets up.

Exclamation What I should have done...

Right now you can get a Brand New 2001 Accord Coupe LX Inline 4, 5 speed, for as low as $18,700, or you can get an EX for 21,000. Not bad.

Fmax makes a turbo for their cars, and bumps up the hp to an initial 230 hp from stock 150 hp. Okay so we have 225 hp in our TL's right? Don't forget the LX manual is 500 lbs lighter than our TL's, and the EX manual is about 420 lbs lighter.

The power to weight ratio of this Accord is already better than the Type S. (Accord's .171 to Type S's .165)

We're not done yet. With a little bit of tweaking, the engine can squeeze 280 hp. And for race days, run an open exhaust and some 110+ octane, turn up the boost: 300+ hp in a 2950 lb car. Not bad, that's better power/weight than a Supra Turbo.

And you know I love the Accord Coupe Body kits... <sigh>

Well then, that's you. I still see it as an accord everybody will have. The TL is just a little different, but people treat it with much more respect.

Yeah I know the TL caters to a little older crowd. You get that respect and all. I'm sure I'd get a lot less looks with the accord (if I didn't have a Black Widow kit on it ). But I wouldn't buy it for that. I'd buy it for the 13 second timeslips, the Front mount intercooler in the front air dam, and the blow off valve between each shift.

What type of racing? If autocross, you'll need major suspension upgrades/strengthing plus new wheels/tires, say an extra 3k-6k, plus turbo not the best. OK for strip, but used accord would be cheaper leaving more $ for mods if just for racing.

If you want a racer go for the LX... otherwise TL as an everyday car should do fine...

F=MA, I feel you on that. Sometimes I have second thoughts about my TL. I'm only twenty years old, and driving a near luxury car. I know many out there would love to be in my shoes, but I miss driving my old 5 speed cars (GSR and Vtec Prelude). Makes me feel old driving the TL. At least I know I drive alot safer now, alot less street racing now then back in the days with my rice rockets.

For whoever has been around, I used to be into performance while having a luxury car. My first mods were all sleeper performance...well, i slammed hte car right when coil-overs came out...but that still falls into performance handling.

I bought headers, intake, and I think i was one of the first to try out the AEM CAI.

but then, time went by.....and it's like...I just want to blingbling down thestreets. Performance isn't that big of a deal unless the SC comes out, which i'd prolly get.
