Hello.
Okay, so I've owned my A-Spec for a little over 2 weeks now and just noticed that there are fine scratches in the finish of the paint (Aegean Blue). The car has been washed twice (1st time at a "touchless" car wash, 2nd time at a machine car wash). It has the "Diamond Kote" paint protector and has sat in the garage for 80% of the time. When I noticed this today I couldn't believe it... and it really pissed me off... Now, I know this can be fixed (getting the car waxed, high speed polish) BUT... Diamond Kote does not recommend waxing your car??!?! Why, I don't know... but does anyone have a solution to get these fine scratches out of the paint? Also, does anyone know when it is "safe" for the car to be waxed?

I never used diamond coat...but to take off the fine scratches you can was/polish your car. I think diamond kote doesn't recommend it because it might lessen the affectivness or remove the diamond kote coat.
YOu will get micro scratches no matter what, even with touchless....with touchless, the workers still use a lambskin spong to wash your car. I think it mainly is due to teh machine was depending on the material used....some of the new ones use a frabic type i still see some older ones with a plastic material like.
DO a search for zainos, A LOT of ppl rave about it. www.zainobros.com

ABP iin general is pretty sensitive when it comes to scratces. Any little bump to the paint will show a scratch.
i dont care how carefull you are with your baby, micro scratches are going to happen no matter what. all you can do i try your best not to mkae them terrible. and wax/buff them out every now and then.... dont use towels to dry, never touch the car when its dry and dirty, never wash with anything unless its microfiber, the list goes on.
your you could just buy silver and never worry about it like me

If you drive your car, you are going to get scratches, no matter what you do or where you park, it's going to happen. I'd wait until after the winter, then detail your car.

NSXNEXT,
Acutally, the machine car wash is excellent. I have brought numerous cars to them (NSX, Viper, Cayenne, etc) and they always do an excellent job.
Thank you all for the responce, however I am still questioning this whole "Diamond Kote" thing... does anyone know why I CANT wax my car? And what will happen if I do?
Thanks,
CH

I'm more then willing to help you get rid of most of your swirl marks using my orbital polisher, but I'm a little reluctant due to the diamond kote which you claim is over the paint surface. I would rather not go ahead and apply the polish/wax until we know if this theory about not being able to wax the paint is true or not. Anyhow, call my cell at 6:30.
Take care

I hope the salesman didn't "sell" you this Diamond stuff.
As for the scratches, high pressure water jets in the car washes could have possibly pushed fine grains across the surface. Thats why I never wash my car with anything but a garden hose.

Bring it back to the "Diamond Kote" guy or whoever you paid to get it done. Tell him you noticed scratches and I believe they offer some form of warranty. I had an old 5.0 liter which is black and I got suckered into this "whatever-coat" paint protection when I bought it (learned the hard way). I noticed the scratches and swirl marks and since they did not want me to apply anything, I just kept on bringing it back to them to get it re-done. Hey you paid for it right?

You got this paint protection service from the dealer?!?!? you got rip off my friend.
NEVER EVER buy these extended protection packeages....these gimmicks are just to rip you off some more.

Never use commercial car washes. If they are 'touchless', they could be using re-cycled water, which means any dirt that didn't get filtered out is now being sandblasted on your car. Those other machine car washes are even worse. They actually are wearing down the coating on your paint. Using one of these will actually wear off your clearcoat in time.
Racer
Most touchless car washes do not use recycled water...But...being Touchless they need to use harsher chemicals to get your car clean. Most likely one run through one of those will eat the wax off your car. Regarding the Diamond coat - it's a sealant and nothing lasts 5 years...if you notice they probably gave you an upkeep kit of some kind (my roomate got a similar paint coat on his but I haggled them out of charging for it)..it came with the "upkeep" kit. You can top any sealant off with a wax no problem. The reason they don't want you to is if you use a cleaner wax it will remove the sealant all together. A straight Carnuba with no cleaners would just top the sealant. You can buy sealants like Zaino, Upp or Poorboys EX (I use UPP and Poorboys).
