What is a good method for painting calipers?

So basically, just get some sand paper and sand down the caliper really good, then clean the caliper to get any debris off of them, then put maybe 4 coats of paint on them with, say, engine paint, and then you are done?

Do you sand the caliper by hand?

What do you use to clean the caliper?

Can you put clear coat on the caliper?

Is there anything I am missing?

you just need to clean it off, maybe use some rubbing alcohol..
then sand it down, but not too much, just to get the dirt and grim off the surface...
you can purchase paint just for painting calipers. they can withstand very high temperature.
wait about 10 minutes after each coat.
then add the clear coat, and let it dry...
it should be pretty simple..
but i dont think just any engine paint will work as well..
ive noticed those engine paints are pretty thin, whereas the caliper paint is a bit thicker..

Can you find that sort of paint at auto part stores?
Also how many coats is one bottle of paint good for?

I tried to download the wheel accesories but it didn't work. I will try again later from a different computer. Anyways, will 1 can of paint be good for 4 coats of paint on each caliper?

Also, how long should a good hand sanding job take?

And do you just use regular hardware store sand paper?

yeah you need Adobe Acrobat to view that page..
if you dont have it, you can download it...
yes..the page states that the kit supplies enough for all four calipers..
it comes with all the supplies needed to do the job..
if it doesnt come with sand paper..
buy some sand paper, but the softer kind..
dont get sandpaper that is too rough, then you can stratch the caliper..not sure the exact term for it..
you dont have to do it for a long time..
just to get the dirt and grim off it, and too get it smooth so you don't have anybumps when you put on the caliper paint...
but the FOLIATEC kit should ocme with everything you need...

That's pretty expensive. I paid 70 bucks for it.
I still have one sitting in the box.........maybe I will feel like to take the calipers a part one day and paint them red.
For my wife's car, someone is offering to powder coat them.....which is even better. (I think)

You might want to see if there are any powder coating shops in your area - powder coating is more durable than paints, although it may cost you a bit more. Examples of powder would be lawnmovers decks, high end patio furniture, the clear coat on your rims.

As for part prep, an acid bath after a degrease will ensure the best adhesion. Make sure you prime first

Good Luck and post pics when you're done.
