Definitely get a NAV. I have a 99TL with the hd NAV but the new TL have the NAV on CD.

The purpose of the NAV is for directions. You can either enter the address, name, or phone # and it will locate the place for you. It even has the place's phone #. You can also look for hospitals, restaurants, amusement parks, hotels/motels, etc. There are a lot more places but I can't remember all of them. You can even store your favorite addresses. Go to the dealer and tell them to give you a NAV manual. It will tell you everything in detail. You will not regret it if you get it.

Question

If I didn't have my 99 already, Definitely.

If your 99 didn't have it, would you replace it with a TL that did? Is NAV worth all that hassle.

Why didn't you get the NAV in the first place? If you could afford the TL, I'm pretty sure you could dish out an additional $2K for it. My god, it was the ONLY option and to me it was well worth it.

It makes the car look more luxurious (plus it fills in that big-ass gap)and also makes a great conversation piece.

If you are planning to get a new car (TL-S?)soon then don't get it. But if you are planning to keep your car for a while then definitely go get it. Ask around to see if anybody is selling a NAV for a 99TL.

this is just my opinion. i don't think a stock navigational system is worth it at all. for about $2000 you can get an alpine cva-1005 (motorized screen) with a cd-rom or dvd-rom navigation system which will be upgradable for the future for items like vcr, game consoles, and dvd players. but that is just my opinion, its your money after all=]

True, but then you have to place the screen somewhere out of the console , and imo it doesn't look so cool kinda "unluxurious".

if you get a custom installation, it could look really nice. heres some examples:

this guy did a navigation for his IS300, looks exactly like stock optional navigation system in the japanese altezzas.

this one is my favorite...heheh if you got money that is=]

It can be used for more than just getting from point a to b. Say you're traveling and want to have dinner. From your present position the Navi will locate and list any restaurant from closest to further away. Same goes for motels/hotels. The would be so great when you're traveling late at night, and need a place to sleep for the night.

The system in the TL can also save a location to its memory. This means a place you go to or see on the road & might wan't to return to at a later time. Here is an example you are out of town & driving down the road you see a gift shop. The system can be used to remember that location. What you have to do is stop the car at that location & push the A (car symbol) icon on the NAV screen. The screen will come up as save location & you push that. Now you drive say 200 miles of in other directions.
When your comming back & want to return to that shop you just push it up in the save location. The system also gives you Estimated miles & time of arival to your destination.

I got a TL w/o the navi and I'm regretting it. But I want to install one. Is it possible to install the OEM navi? Or should I get an alpine? Which one would be cheaper?

from what i've heard, you cannot install a factory one, i would go with an alpine one.

Yeah, you can't install the factory NAV. That's why I want to do this. My company pays for my car. I'd have to pay for an aftermarket NAV.
