Post What effect from increasing the rim size???

I have thought about increasing the rims from the stock to 19's plus tires to match. I was told by my locla mechanic that the tires will suffer a lot of strain and the resultant milage will go down.

Has this been the case with you guys. We don't have a bottomless pit of money and cannot afford to replace our tires every other day.

Please let us know.

The only problem with increasing wheel size is that u get lower profile tires therefore, the bigger the rim the more bumps u feel.

Thumbs down

expect to get new ones every 15,000 to 20,000 miles on 18". It might be less for 19" since you have to used smaller profile tires. Plus they are quite expensive, $150+ plus for each.

better look. but you have to be careful at bumps and pot holes, and you getter slower acceleration.

you need to consider the offset, the size (width) and if you care about the speedometer being correct or not, you need to consider the circumference, too.

WAY better handling. We'll see just how long the tires last.

the added weight will slow you down. might also make steering response slower because of the added weight, but you car will corners better though. personally, i think 19" is too much.

what causes rubbing them? is it the width of the wheel? so then when you turn, it will hit the inside plate?

Nah, theres so much less rubber steering response is MUCH improved. The added weight will slow down your acceleration a bit.

I just put 18's on my 97TL, but I have had 17's on for quite a while now. I did notice a difference in the mileage I got, it got worse. BUT my 18's look dope, Niche Shocks, and it is well worth it to me. Consider that you ARE going to buy tires every 15,000 miles, and the fact that you will get a bumpier ride. But like I said, the looks make me overlook those things... to a degree.

What kind of wheels did you buy? Also, how much for the shocks and where did you get them? Do the wheels rub at all? Sorry for the Q's.

I don't see any downsides to bigger wheels... except that you'd have to drive more carefully and slowly. But that's a good thing right? Less chances of getting pulled over for speeding when you're driving slow!

Wayne of WayneandJudy, I think you need to let my wife train yours. She needs to understand why it's important to make your baby look as beautiful as it can.
But again, if she spend too much time with my wife, she would get a car that will dust yours.

HA, HA, You're right. That's why she wants the RSX. If the car comes loaded,it's ok; but if you have to add mods after the purchase, there are second thoughts.
