Did they do just one drain/fill? If so, $130 is way too much money.

One can gat a case of the proper Honda oil, ATF Z1, for $6.10 a quart if you ask the parts department for a case discount. You might have to try a couple of dealerships to find a sympathetic parts employee. The usual rate is closer to $7.15 a quart.

Then, it is a matter of doing a 3-quart drain and fill, four times.

I would as other fluids may be suspect.
3- qts of fluid go in after a drain. Check my past posts, believe me I know. Not requiring a filter, like a normal motor oil change this is a way basic job and should have been more like $75 (purely opinion not based in fact...!)
You were overcharged because you were not aware of the simplicity of the job.
No judgement - I also have learned lessons the expensive ways. If you have a relationship with the shop/dealer, work it. Spend 10 minutes chatting up the service tech and you will always get a break (unless they are weenies)- time well spent and dollars saved.
I do my own (obsessive) maintenance and try to leverage every dollar.

Tranny fluid drain and fill how does this 3 by 3 work how come all the fluid doesn't drain at once why do you have to drain fill 3 times how aren't we adding new fluid and draining the same new fluid

Because the torque converter holds about half the capacity. You drain, go for a drive, and then drain again. 3 times and you introduce mostly new fluid to the entire tranny. And you clean the drain plug magnet too.

go back and see exactly what they used- someone may be buying you a trans if they put dextron3 in
If that is added in the smallest quantity `in an emergency top off` then a 3x3 with 12 qts Honda atf must be done
thats right from the owner book, and the only time acura says you must do a 3x3

acura and many shops do a simple drain and refill of 3 qts the trans will give up at one time and charge about 100 bucks for it
or more
1 hour labor minimum 100-120..30 bucks of fluid = 150 easily at many dealer and shops

We dont have a traditional oil pan with internal replaceable filter for drop and drain of most of the fluid
Torque convertor always holds some
you have to drive 5 minutes using each gear up and down to move the fluid towards the drain-
on the TL its over 3 qts of 7.3 total system capacity

That is a very good idea. Better safe than sorry.

Yes..you definitley should replace with HONDA ATF. If you buy the entire case of 12 bottles..the dealers will probably give it to you aroun 7$ a quart. Also buy at a honda dealership to save money.
