I have an 02 TL-S also with 99,200 miles and I get 300 miles a tank. If I don't go out on the weekend I fill up for work once every 2 weeks. My parents MDX is having some major gas mileage problems and we changed the plugs, air filter, seafoamed into fuel, checked tires and my mom drives it so I know she's driving slow. Any other idea's? O2 sensor?

I tried Acetone on my car and it work & improve extra average 3 MPG. Before I only got 18~19 MPG with 50-50% freeway & local. And I only put the regular GAS. I have tried the premium gas but it gave me worse than regular gas on MPG. I don't know why. When I start tried it really improve engine at ideling and running, it a lot quiet than before.

Does anybody know if the NGK Iridum IX spark plugs found in this auction will fit my 02 TL-S?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-03...spagenameZWDVW

The reason I'm asking is because the description doesn't mention anything about the Type S model, so I just wanted to confirm with you guys if these are the correct plugs for my car.

at my local kragen I got them for $7/each. Works out to be the same, but on the auction you have to wait for them to ship.

Well, 10 MPG is a car in need of service, pure and simple. My 3G TL gets 33 on the highway and in the 20s with a combination of city and highway.

Yeah, I agree with ya ! Anything that is capable of affecting the timing or air/fuel ratio will have an impact on gas mileage. Besides your driving style being tops on the list, maintenance is also very important. Various sensors, valves, solenoids, hoses & etc. can eventually fail to perform ideally @100% as new, but may work well enough not throw any codes. If your TL's poor fuel mileage just started after any mods, recheck your work. In the meantime, I'd recommend starting with the new NGK plugs after having the EGR intake ports and throttle body cleaned. My fuel mileage improved considerably after doing this. Also check for vacuum leaks, make sure that your coolant thermosensors and O2 sensors are working properly. Try to do the simplest things first and proceed from there. Your car should be able to get at least 15mpg, even with the worst driving habits and conditions.

Will having your car lowered affect Gas mileage...? I have Tein SS installed...also I have the 3rd gen Wheels on...tires are pretty low... I'm going to inflate them to the proper psi today.

FYI
I just filled up again this weekend and got 243 Miles on the trip.

Divided by
15gallons= 16MPG,
14gallons=17MPG.

I use those figures cuz I every time I fill up thats how much gas I top off @.

HELP!
P.S.
I'm going to do my EGR/intake/TB cleaning sometime next month.

3g rims are heavier and wider than 2g 16's. I used to run the same setup and noticed a difference of 3-4mpg per fillup (12 gallons) vs the stock rims.

I get pretty bad mileage at 15-16 mpg on average. If I drive like a grandma I get 17 at best. I did plugs about 3k miles ago. I seafoam like crazy. Check my tires constantly. Have CAI and headers. I used to have a pretty heavy sub and box in trunk. Took that out same gas mileage. Have not tried cleaning EGR port and throttle body that may be the problem. I never remember getting that great of gas mileage ever in this car though.

If the majority of your driving is city or your in stop and go traffic your not going to improve much if any with different rims, also if your drives are short drives that will hurt mileage as well. If thats all your getting all hwy then there is something wrong. Having sorrect psi (32 and ABOVE) will help out. Changing driving style is another key

Also, I run 3gTL rims and get 22 - 25 combined depending on how early i roll out of bed!
Driving style is key. I have not weighed the rims but they are indeed larger, tires are more likely a bigger impact. 1st as fsttyms1 stated, pressure; 2nd size = weight. I have 235/45s on mine. you have a ground effects kit and are lowered, which also should reduce the drag from the tires extending farther out, I don't. I have a two piece brake rotor which weighs less.
Just a little more info for the 3G setup for you to take into consideration.

It made no difference on my 2000 TL. Drove 110K on original plugs, changed them to lastest gear out there and no difference. Just a little smoother.

Culprit?

I think I found the culprit! I was doing some spring cleaning and when I got to the engine compartment...My comptech elbow was disconnected from the air filter box. Looks like the glue was old or something and it was disconnected. I used electrical tape and put it back on w/ a snug fit... then taped the outside of that... I'll take some pics and post this weekend. Filled up a the tank....1 can of seafoam in my tank (prior to fill up). Hopefully that'll help w/ my mileage

BTW....175 Miles on the Trip
When I filled up I topped off @ 14.something gallons.
Always have used premium.

So thats like 13/14 MPG
