Question What can I expect to get for my 2001 TL

OK, Here is what happened. I sent a dealer friend of mine to an auction with my blessing to buy a 2000 tl. Problem was, there were few there. 2nd biggest auction in the world and there were less than 10 there out of thousans of cars! Bad luck. Anyway, I told him how much i wanted to spend, and he went over. He came home with a beautiful 2001 TL w/ 44k miles. Beautiful inside and out. So he spent too much and I can't afford it. So, i love the car and would keep it if not a money issue. If I can get enough, I will sell it and go for something closer in my range. In your opinions, how much can i realistically expect to get for this thing? no spoiler, only Xenons with the rest of the normal options. spotless inside and out.

Run the VIN# and make sure it has all of its maintenance done.

Check kbb.com and edmunds.com, those are usually decent estimates. You can always check out Autotrader.com too, to see what other people are trying to sell their '01s for.

Yeah, I checked edmunds and kbb before the post (should have mentioned) and I see 'what its worth', but does anyone have any experience to know what I should expect to get? The car is certified from the dealer who sold it at auction, and has all the documentation. can you tell I really don't want to sell this car? and I am posting this cause i want to know how attached i should allow myself to get! Thanks for the help.

OK, if it really is in immaculate condition as you say, and has some sort of warranty on it, then I'd say around $16-$17k. I looked at a couple in that range at one point. I'd list it for, oh, $17,000, and then maybe be willing to negotiate down to $16,500. That's really the sweet spot for used TLs, though...if you go much cheaper than that, the mileage is going to shoot up fast. Say you want to save some cash and only spend $13,000...most of the ones I've seen at that price point are '99s and '00s with more than 70k miles on them. You just lost two model years, gained 30k miles, and saved $3000. I mean, that's fine, I just wanted to make sure you understood the value of each price point.

wow. 16.5. If I could get 18-19 out of it, it would be worth it, but at 16.5, I am better off trying to come up with the extra cash to keep it.

Well, that's what I'm seeing many like yours go for. You MIGHT be able to get $18k if you only list it locally and really talk it up and hope the person who comes to buy it doesn't shop online. But I wouldn't count on it. How much did the guy get it for at auction, if you don't mind me asking?

Maybe you could do a trial: list it for $18k, or $18.5k if you want to get ambitious, and see if anyone bites. After a few weeks, if no one does, you could think about keeping it. If someone does buy it for near $18k, then you could go pick yourself up a '99 or '00 for cheap, say around $12k. There you go, you just made $3.2k on the auction one, which makes your net cost for your new one around $9k. Not bad at all! Here's a particularly stunning deal I found, if you're close to CA:

Good luck!
