Question What Are The Best Rotors? (Mine are Warped I Think)

My steering wheel shakes when braking at high speeds... I also noticed rust on the rotors after I bought the car about 2 yrs ago... It doesn't bother me that much, but I know I'll have to do something about it sooner or later.

When I'm ready should I get new rotors or just have them resurfaced?

If I get new rotors... Which one's are the most durable/best or best bang for the buck at least?

I have seen cross drilled/ slotted but I don't know any thing about them. Do they make your brake pad wear faster or slower? Do they cause more of that brake dust that is a pain in the arse to get off my white TL? Should I get just slotted or just drilled or both and are they durable as the stock rotors?

I heard I should stick with the OEM brake pads? Even if I get slotted/drilled?

I have no clue on this plz help...

I guess just tell me what to get on a silver platter

I also read on the forum not to wash your car after driving your rotors hot.

I am still running on my stock rotors 00' TL-P with 62k miles. If I had to change them out I think I'd go with the rotora or irotor rotors (almost everyone talks about rotora rotors on this forum). I heard cross drilled rotors are the easiest to crack and is mainly used for track purposes. I'd stick with a regular or slotted rotors only. As for pads, I'd go with EBC greenstuff, oem, hawks, or satisfied pro ceramics. I'd rather pay for a new rotor than to resurface unless it doesn't cost too much. That's just my opinion.

you might wanna browse thru this:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108051

but yeah, dont have the dealer charge $500 for new rotors, get aftermarket performance rotors for much less. easy installation as well.

I'm interested in brembo or rotora, even though i heard the pads are what make our acura rotors warp. I really want quiet pads, cant stand that squeaky sound. Any recommendations on quiet pads like oem but hopefully better.

I thought the OEM rotors are pretty good. These other ones would be only good for extreme drving. I have Satisifed ceramic brakes pads from TireRack. I love them.

Thumbs up Good Posts

So, of these....

What's the best bang for the bucko?

Durable rotors and durable brakes that don't make lots of dust and last.

Cool After Reading The Other Thread

Probably expensive, but it seems that the best rotors would be dimple+slotted and have a cadmium or zinc plating? And the pads should be based on how you drive...

I do drive fairly fast... I avg 45-60mph on regular streets and around 80mph on the highway... I'm being honest

__________________________________________________ _______________
I actually got pulled over.. The cop was like, " Did you notice you were going an amazing 73 in a 35?". It was 5:30am and I just took my woman to the airport... The only people on that road were me and the cop that instant onned me...

I just laughed and said... You caught me trying to have some fun... Then I called my lawyer when I woke up arrrgh!
__________________________________________________ _______________

Anyway... What pads should I use? and do I really need dimpled or should I just stick with slotted only? I don't want to eat pads and it's not like I'm a racecar driver.

I also hate that rust & dust crap... is there a spray or just to buy some zinc plated rotors?

When my stock rotors warped I replaced them with Brembo blanks and OEM pads; they have now warped again.

A few people have the Poweslot rotors and seem happy with them.

EBC is high performance too, but makes an annoying noise due to the slots

Good value for dollar would be stock brake pads with Brembo brake discs. There's lots of aftermarket options.

Check out Brembo brakes at www.brembo.com for more info. Brembos are a very reputable name.

Is there a problem/defect with the stock rotors that is causing them to warp?

All I know is that my steering wheel shakes like a SOB when I'm braking down from around 65mph+....

I also know that if I'm going to pay for new rotors... As a consumer, I work hard for my money so I want good one's for good price.

I believe so. My guess is that they are too thin. I know that driving through water or washing your car when the rotors are hot can warp them but I am careful not to do that. I have never experienced a problem with warped rotors in any other vehicle I have owned, so I conclude it is a defect.

It maybe that ppl aren't installing them properly?
I got my brake job done at the dealer and everything is really good with my brakes with still the OEN rotors that it came with.

I have the same set up on my CLS, instead of the satisfied pads i have the metal master ones, i'd say its the best set up i.e. right behind the bbk.

Just ordered the Rotora rotors. Will be using EBC green stuff. Hopefully I'll have some positive results in a month or so.

I have close to 7k miles on my Rotora/Axis Ultimates/SS lines and the braking is a night and day difference over the OEM equipment. I'm going to try a different pad next time though. The Axis Ultimates are loud and very dusty.

Best place to buy rotors and pads?

Since most people are recommending Rotora's and EBC Greenstuff's, can anyone recommend a site that has a great deal on the combo?

I get most of my stuff from TireRack.com, but I think they stopped selling EBC pads

Good luck,

My setup consits of iRotors in the front and EBC Greenstuff Pads. They are a lil noisy due to the rotors being crossdrilled and slotted, but i think they are well worth it.

WHAT?! NO MORE EBC FROM TIRERACK?!
