What is the best oil & filter ?
I am looking to start to change my oil myself. I have been going to a shop and using 5w30 (dont know what brand).
I have a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL.
What brand of oil and what type should I use ?
What oil filter is best ?

tons of posts about this (synthetic vs dyno, etc), Also look at bobtheoilguy.com (or something like that) - more info than you'll ever want. Let the search be your friend. Everyone has their own opinion - comes down to personal taste and how frequently you plan on changing your oil. I think if there's one thing that everyone agrees on tho is avoid Fram filters. Don't let price get the best of you - don't sacrifice a few bucks here / there at the expense of your engine.

Valvoline Synpower Synthetic and a Bosch filter every 7500 miles. Previously ran RoyalPurple until the price was jacked up to $9 a quart!! It's good but not THAT good.

x3 on the Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5-20w and M104 filters, every 7500-8000 miles. I tried Royal Purple last oil change because it was on sale, but eh, I'm going back to M1 next oil change.

im using mobil 1 5w20 with a m1-104 filter. im trying out royal purple 5w20 with a royal purple oil filter for my next oil change. rp is damn expensive and probably wont benefit the car much but i got the hook up so ill give it a try

I used to use it on my old cars when I was younger..never really had an issue with it really, but I dont think i'd put it in my tl.

I love these type of statements. Its not like the cheaper brands and stuff will destroy things. If they did they wouldnt be on the market.

Kris, Kris, Kris.... I understand that cheaper stuff doesn't always mean they are crap, but you have to think about it from another point of view.... would you buy a socket set (to work on your precious TL, of course) from the dollar store which is a no brand company or would you rather go and get some MAC or Snap-on tools? There is a reason why certain items are priced low, and usually it is because the build quality is lacking....
Sometimes you find a cheaper priced item made by the big guys and it does the same thing.... Like Fram.... fram oil filters have cardboard ends that hold the filter element... nothing wrong with Fram, but wouldn't want to spend more and have the element held by metal like almost every other filter maker does? No risk of cardboard deteriorating and going into the engine.... Champion happens to make a good filter and they were the outsource company for Walmart's SuperTech line... why would I pay $9 for a filter when I can get the same filter off the same assembly line for $3???
