Post Weird Noise after car has been in the Arizona SUN

I live in Phoenix, AZ and here is the issue:

I parked my car outside in the 104 degree heat (I have to, no other choice). I start my car and there is a weird sound, like something is moving underneath my seat area. It is not the anti-lock break thing that you get when you start driving. It makes this sound ONLY when it has been sitting in the sun for a while, it's hot, and right after you start the car. Any suggestions??

I've also noticed that the car has a strong plasticy fume inside when it has been sitting in the sun. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

Wink

All modern cars have outgassing of plasticizers from the vinyl, accelerated during high temp situations such as you describe, and especially bad in new cars. The wiring and other plastic materials do this also - it used to be a good thing - the new car smell?

It's beyond new car smell....I loved the smell of the car when I first got it. Now it smells almost toxic (like a petroleum product).

Still no word on that sound, huh? Funny thing is, it does not reproduce UNLESS you let the car site for a few hours in the hot sun.

Go to coverking.com and buy a lined Tyvek car cover. It keeps the car at or slightly above ambient temperature and protects it form UV too! Certainly works in Palm Springs where it was 110 a few days last week. About $140.
