weird code..

was hoppin on the highway and after about 2 mins at 70, check engine light comes on... oh boy..so went to autozone they checked it quick and 2 codes came up they were both p1457 it said something about system emissions something something.. anyways i had him delete them both and then went on my way.. drove about a 2 hour drive and they never came back... CEL stayed off... what was that code all about and why did it come on in the first place?

no CEL as of this point anymore.

have you already done an internet search for acura code P1457 for more specifics
and a search of azine?

year and miles would help us figure out possibles
Any mods to the car in exhaust or intake?

odd to get a random code for no reason at all- problem may not be what the code says, but something is likely amiss

what does the code mean?

you can clear codes to see if they come back - its part of testing and diagnosis- still allowed by the DIYer

The only time you cant clear codes is right before a smog test- trying to fool them by clearing a CEL with a reset while still having a problem,
but the TL and most cars will tell the smog machine it hasnt been driven enough to get full readings--smart cars- doh!

if its an egr code I would pull the intake manifold and clean the egr port
99 has 1 , later has 6 and still plug up approx every 75kmiles and need to be done again
Thats according to our mega mod fsttyms1 with 350k miles on TL/CL engines

there was a recall on 99s for cleaning and install of a smooth sleeve in the port, but it didnt solve the problem
acura does it once under recall and after that you are on your own
later years 00+ should read DIY thermoblock install and egr cleaning for pics
plugged egr ports makes car run funny,,, and not in a good way

If a 99 call 1-800-382-2238x5 and ask if that recall was done

Not around here is isnt. Especially if its part of the diagnostic step. (plus we dont have emissions testing)

As for the code my first guess would have been a gas cap that didnt quite make a seal long enough to trigger the code.

ahh the gas cap! of course- look at the seal on it- zone may have a pressure testing tool you can use right in the store
look at rubber seal for cracks
The TL is really picky about leaks of any kind-
if you leave the cap off after refueling it can take days to before the cel goes away

always turn the cap to tighten until 3 clicks are heard- says so right on thge cap
its a built in torque wrench that goes off at right tension of cap- the other clicks are just bonus- you can do 10 if it makes you happy- as long as 3 are heard thats good to go

tip to OP: if you look up a code on google- post what it said here so we dont all have to look it up- you want help.... you have to partially help yourself~

Reset it yourself. Go to the passenger side dash fuse panel and pull the "Clock backup" fuse for a min then put it back in.

not super tight- inspect the seal or ask the zone guy to
then tighten until it does 3 count them 1 2 3 clicks
then stop
You are not tightening it any more after that- its a spring lock

overtightening anything on this car is a bad idea- set to spec and stop

either the end of dash when you open right door, or on the side kick panel of passenger footwell-

its the panel that pops off on the side of the dash, just like on the drivers side.
