Ways to keep the tl safe.

Hey guys, I love my car and I'm pretty sure most of you all love it too. Recently I have been paranoid that my car can be a easy target to get stolen. The reason I got paranoid recently is because my friend got his nice integra stolen for the second time. This is his second teg and now it's stolen from him again. Both cars was hooked up really nicely. I know the integra's are popular cars to still then our cars but, I'm still alittle paranoid. He had a alarm on his car too but, they still stole the damn thing. I know that if someone really wants your car they are going to still it anyways but........ What are some ways to keep your car safe while you are sleeping at night? Besides a alarm.....

Let's make a list here. This is what I can think of:

-Buy a club
-Have someone park behind you
-Disconnect your battery
-Park in your garage if you have one

Anyone have any more ideas? Is our cars easy to still like a integra? I know that the new civics has something in their keys that makes it harder for theives to still.

Ok, Heres what i do.

1. Keep car in garage if you have one (like me)
2. Arm the TL's stock alarm once parked in the garage.
3. Park both parents cars in the drive way infront of the garage door (if you still live at home cuz ur young and in college)
4. Make sure parents cars alarms are armed and locked as well.
5. Don't give your exact location out for the whole world to see when your on acurazine, that includes stating your city your in. Just put the state your in or county.
6. Don't put Decals of Brand Names of different parts that are installed or in your car, because that could make someone want what you have in it.
7. Don't put T.V.'s or DVD pop out screens in your car and don't leave your ipod or whatever mp3 player you have connected to the stock HU exposed to anyone who looks through the windows while your away from your car inside a store or wherever. Always bring it with you or hide it so you dont entice someone to want to break in and get whatever you have in your car. OH, and also, DONT LEAVE RIMS WITH TIRES ON EM IN THE BACK SEAT OF YOUR TL lmao. One member did this and woke up the next morning with his rims and tires stolen that were in the back seat. STUPIDITY!
8. Don't hang around the wrong people of another friend's friends that might have a bad rap.
9. Dont fuck with anyone you know and make them angry and want to come jack your shit or set it on fire.
10. Last of all, use some common sense and dont park your TL just anywhere, always park in a parking garage or some place secured or park directly under a very bright well lit parking space.

Follows these steps and you shouldnt really need a waste of money alarm that wont do you any good.

Wink

I just wanted to add, that, Remember, the Integra is a very very popular car for racing enthusiasts. That car is one of the most JACKED acuras of all being that you can do all kinds of motor swaps with em etc. Yes our TL's are pretty fucking easy to jack. Its the same shit as an accord or any other civic. Believe me, if they want your car, THEY'RE GONA TAKE IT. Just face it, you knew the risk involved when you started hookin up your car so dont sweat it. If it gets jacked, thats what insurance is for. Yes it will never change the fact that your baby is gone and there will never be another like it, but you cant live your life in fear. Enjoy every second of it cuz there are others out there that dont have any respect for others treasures. But if it helps you sleep at night, get a blairing ass alarm system that will cut the car DEAD once they break in. Put a club on your steering wheel, disconnect the battery every night, and try and park whatever cars you can behind your car. Good luck.
Yeah i worry about mine alot too, but i try to avoid the possibility as much as i can.

if someone wants your car or whatever is inside of it, short of you standing there with a 12gauge, they are gonna take it. just have full insurance on it and lock the doors.

club is useless... get an alarm that disengages power when tripped.. that way they cant use door locks/unlocks.. only a key will open tho.. cost is around 6-700 tho..

autolock is useless..ive seen thieves bend the pedal to get around the autolock.or just punch out the shifter lock so you dont need to push the brake pedal to shift it into drive

just get a decent alarm and a good installer.the alarm itself doesnt really matter because most of them have the same features.i think the biggest difference is the installer bc anyone can jus follow the instructions in the box.but a good installer will know where to put the brain so its not easily accessible and how to route the wires so they too are hidden.

So do we.. There is a chip in the key preventing car from starting if the ignition is bypassed or an identical cut key (without the chip) is used. The civic might have something newer but we do have a few stock theft prevention features.

If I was really worried, post up a thread about how many people have had their TL stolen.. Very Very few compared to a frequently modded 4cyl coupe.

Did someone suggest disconnecting the battery?

And with that, disabling the already weak factory alarm system.

When I park away from my block with the car out of my sight I hit the panic alarm after arming so people actually think my alarm is that loud. That freaking panic alarm can wake up a city block.

I would not recommend hitting the panic button unless you are in a panic situation. It flashes the HIDs rapidly, and that almost guarantees them an early death. I hit mine accidentally in my pocket and cringed as my HIDs flashed 3 times before I could stop the torture on them.

Really? So me where someone has bent the brake pedal which is where it would go on an auto. That's one of the strongest pieces of metal even located on the car!

Like you suggestion, a decent alarm will work? Yeah right, keep talking

Yep.. I owned a 99TL prior to my 02TL-S. Keep your eye on the dashboard display... put your key in the ignition and turn it a click. You will see a green icon of a key light up on the dash.. That is the confirmation that the chip is the correct one.

When our ignition is turned (activated), instead of cranking the engine over, it tells the car to "look" for a chip located in the key, once it is found the car turns over and starts. If you were to cut an identical key and use it, the car wouldn't start because the chip is not present. I'm not sure if the chip sensor is electrical...eg. is connected to the metal part of the key, and in turn, contacts the car when it is in the ignition. Or the car has a sensor that searches for the key within the vacinity of the ignition, similar to the MB keyless ignition. I would assume the first suggestion but I havent really looked into it.

yea ive always wondered about much LOJACK runs....im surprised cars dont come standard with it. you may get your car stolen, but you can easily track it down before the car is stripped and ditched

i saw an episode on cops were they tracked this trailer thing to a garage with lojack, and teh dude got his shit back

and lojack also helps catch the fuckholes who steal cars, and you can even give a personal beat down if you get there before the cops!!

ok i kno u think im full of it but listen...im not gonna admit to ever stealing cars but i can say from first hand experience it can be bent enough to wedge the lock off.ive even seen the brake pedal in a kia sephia bend during an accident and slice my friends foot.so it is possible...and if i guarantee that if the frame (which is supposed to be the "strongest piece of metal" on the whole car) can bend and twist then the little brake pedal and bend too.

and a decent alarm will work with the RIGHT INSTALLER!!maybe u shouldve read my whole statement!or maybe u jus dont know or havent met any really good installers so your judgement of installers are basically the guys who work at big retail stores (ex. circuit city or best buy) and not specialty shops.im not trynna take away from the work of circuit city or best buy employees but they hire anyone and jus teach them how to follow the directions in the box.so its not like they have years of experience and know all the ins and outs of different cars and ways thieves get around alarm systems.

but an alarm can only go so far.if a thief really wants ur car hes gonna get it if hes good enough and has the right knowledge.so the best alarm and the best installer could still be insufficient to the best thief.so just be careful of where u park

I suggest getting a "Trunk Monkey"...

http://www.trunkmonkey.com/content/view/44/51/

Just kidding, but I thought if you did not have one of the original key's that came with your TL, that the car would not start(?). Going on that, lock your car somewhere it can not get towed away from and keep the keys with you.

All the other standard common sense things that have been posted already...

Ok im going to let you in on a little something. The brake pedal IS NOT mounted to the frame. It is mounted to a stamped 16 gauge (at best) piece of metal called the firewall. It is by no means any where near the strongest part of the car. Most foot/leg injuries (like your friends) in cars come from foot well intrusion (meaning the wheel or engine pushes the firewall taking up space in the passenger compartment hence why he had teh brake pedal bend.
