Warranty Service Outside Warranty Period/Miles

Warranty Service Outside Warranty Period/Miles
I noticed that some members have been able to get the dealerships to do work under warranty when the warranty on their cars have expired. There was an earlier post (under the tranny failure thread) about getting the tranny replaced under warranty when the car had 58,000 miles.
Anyone else have similar stories to share? I'd be interested as to how and under what circumstances the dealer would agree to do something like that? I mean, do you have to know someone, or do you just scream bloody murder? Or does the dealer just volunteer to fix certain problems free outside of warranty b/c they know it's a chronic problem?

Two things. First, the reason I bought Acura was because of my experience with Honda. A number of years back something broke on my Accord Ex, took it into the dealer had them fix it and had an oil change done. I picked up the car and the bill was $21.00. I went to my service tech and pointed out the mistake. He said that item should not have failed to long after 100K and I only had 42K (warranty over at 36K), so they called Honda motor corp and it was replaced for free.
Second, a lot of peole don't know this, but all manufacturers have a hidden extended warranty. It is up to the manufacturer on a case by case basis determine when it will be utilized. The tranny problem I have read about has me concerned and I have noticed a difference in the way the car is shifting ( a rebuild or replacement would probly cost 2500 ) so I have it checked everytime I take it in for service. That way if it goes bad out of warranty, I can go back and have them fix it.
