Warranty Issue
Warranty Issue
Hi there, I know the transmission topic had been gone over and over... My wife still insist of buying the TL-S no matter how many of you had the trans failing...
I love the car too, so here we are having the TL-S for 2 weeks now.
I have read some of the posts here saying the Acura offer the 100,000 miles warranty on the Transmission. When we bought the car, the 100,000 miles warranty is an optional item and will cost us another $1600.. approx. So I decided to stick with the 4yr/ 50,000 miles warranty.
But when I ask about the 100,000 miles transmission warranty, the dealership told me they had never heard of that.
Could anybody confirm this for me or forward a link to me for where and how to get that warranty??
thanks.

Unfortunately, the extension on warranty was not for everybody, but rather for select VIN numbers and years. I have also contacted Acura about it and my car is not one of the ones that got that extension. I think it was for majority of 2002 models. What year did you get?

The ACURA Automatic Transmission Warranty Extension
covers all 2000-2002 3.2TLs all 2001-2002 3.2 CLs models it also covers (some 2003 3.2 TLs & CLs) The automatic transmission & torque coverter are covered for a total of 7years or 100,000 miles. ACURA is providing the warranty to owners because of a higher than normal number of automatic transmissions in certain vehicles may have problems due to defects in material or workmanship beyond the 4 year 50,000 miles new vehicle limited warranty.
What the ACURA dealer was trying to sell you was an extended warranty that covers other things on the car. But the Automatic Transmission Extended Warranty has nothing to do with that at all. This warranty is from ACURA at no cost to owners of any of the cars mention above. This will cover the transmission & torque coverter only well pass the 4yr 50,000 mile warranty. It also covers people that had already paid for transmision repairs & were out of normal new vehicle warranty by mileage. The warranty is also transferable to the next owner if you sell the car.

However your new TL-S won't get the extension because the tranny in your car is supposed to have the "fix" applied.
Congrats on your purchase. What color did you get? Any add-ons?
Thank you guys, we got a 03' with 9 miles on it. But when we got the car, all the rotors are rusted and as it doesn't have Navi. so I suspect the car been sitting at the lot for quite a while...
I guess most TL-S buyers has the Navi.
But from the post up there, you guys all comfort me our car is not in the transmission failure range, I felt much better now. Thanks.
I noticed when I downshift to 2nd, (I'm off the throttle and on the brake, not even in High RPM, my car still breaking in, and we were trying to drive the car under 3000rpm all the time) there's a big jerk. Is it normal?? My 95 accord does that also, I always down shift and turn, but it only jerks when I try to shift into it to go to higher rpms like 4000 or even 5500rpm...
I don't feel very comfortable down-shift and turn into corner because of the "jerking" ( its like someone who doesn't know how to drive stick shift and just dump the clutch ) Being the TL is an auto, no clutch and syncro in there, probably it'll make more damage on it, right??
