Warped Rotors?

I have this funky shudder in the car and in the steering wheel, but its only when I brake and mostly obvious when the brakes are warm and at hihger speeds. I think that I would always feel a warped rotor, not just when I am at a high speed and they are warm. If it is the rotors, how are the ACP's sold here, and should I do pads too? Front and rear or just fronts? What else could it be? The tires are balanced, and have been rotated, the problem persists. I have almost 29k on the clock.

Definitely sounds like rotors. You won't feel them until you apply the brake. Then the wheel will shudder like you described.

If you do a search on this subject, you'll find tons of posts on warped rotors. Don't bother buying parts right now. Since you are still under the warranty period, bring it back to the dealer for them to resurface your rotors for free. There's a TSB on this repair. Of course you'll have to be nice to them when bring this up. They can always blame it on you.

I know its a common issue, but my question is, other people seem to be feeling that rotors at all times, I only feel it at a higher speed, and when the brakes are warmer it gets worse. At a low speed, its just barely there, and slowing down from 40 or less its GONE. That is what is confusing the hell outta me.

A picture couldn't really show a warped rotor, unless it was warped BAD. When they warp the car will shimmy or shudder during braking, which my car does, but when I have had warped rotors before, I have sensed it braking from any speed, not just at higher speeds like my car does now.

I too had a problem when stopping from a fast speed 60-70mph, but not too noticeable from a slower speed. Here's what the Acura said about mine.

Customer requests brake system inspections. Please check for brake vibration at higher speeds. Front rotors out of round. Replaced front rotors and pads. Topped fluids. Test drove - OK.

Qty: 1 Part: 45022-S0K-A11 Pad Set, FR. WARRANTY
Qty: 2 Part: 45251-S0X-000 Disk, FR. 16, 2 WARRANTY

Total Labor and Parts: $ 0.00

I have a 2002 TLS, and just had the brakes done two weeks ago. I have 35K, and they refused to do as a warranty repair. I paid $120 for the repair. Should I b-tch?

Luckily Hendrick Acura here in Charlotte are all about backing up the quality of their cars and don't give us much hassle about anything. They give us loaners whenever they expect a long wait (example: 30/60/90K service). They sell other high end brands (Lexus, BMW) and people who buy from Hendrick expect high quality service and products - that's how they differentiate themselves from the other dealerships.

If it's true there's a technical service bulletin out, then I would definitely b*tch about it. Plus, you bought an Acura and you expect better service and quality from a product that clearly costs more than the run of the mill 4-door sedans from the big 3. Tell them that other Acura dealers are taking care of this "known" Acura TL problem.

If it helps, here's the number of my dealer, 704-563-7800. Maybe you can find out more about the rotor problem that your dealer seems to be hiding.

Does anyone know where I can find the service bulletin on warped rotors? I asked about fixing the rotors during my 30K checkup a few weeks ago but they said it would not be covered by the warranty. They attributed it to normal "wear and tear".

Warped rotors at 30k is NEVER normal wear and tear and your dealer damned well knows this. If you persist you WILL get them done under warranty. Do a search of this and the other site.

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin.

I think I need to call the dealer to schedule an appointment as well. My rotors are having the same problem now at 22k miles.

If you guys want to solve the problem for good, there is a group buy now on rotora rotors at the other side of the net (you know what I mean).

Cheers !!!
