warped rotor

My steering wheel began to shake when I step on the brake since last week. I think rotors are warped, and I also need to replace front brake pads soon. Dealer quoted me $195 for both rotor reserfacing and breakpads replacement. Is it a fair deal? I heard that someone had theirs replaced for free, but my dealer says I have high mileage(43000miles) and it is a normal wear.

Also.. will it be ok to just replace brakepads without reserfacing rotors?

That seems a bit high. I don't think brakes NEED to be done at the dealership, so maybe you should call around for some quotes.

Can you replace pads without resurfacing the rotors? Sure, but I wouldn't recommend it - especially when you know the rotors are warped. The new pads probably wouldn't last that long.

i have almost 40000 miles on my 2000 SSM. Recently had the rotors resurfaced, free of charge under warranty.

Same thing happened to me. It IS COVERED under warranty. There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) that all dealers received advising them that this is covered under the 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty. If they still refuse to honor the warranty, call Acura and complain. Also, you may have to go to another dealer. I went to another dealer and they did it no questions asked. Warped rotors ARE NOT normal, no matter what the mileage.

You need to have the rotors resurfaced otherwise you will still have the same problem. They will replace the pads and either turn or replace your rotors, depending on if there is enough material left on the rotors to turn them.

I'm driving a 94' Talon (yes, a TL-S is in the works) and it has warped rotors since I bought it new. Brembos didn't help, neither did high dollar pads.

I am trying something different though. The last time I had the problem "fixed" I changed my braking habbits. If I have to get on the binders a little harder than the norm, after the car stops I let it roll a about 6" forward to get the hottest part of the rotor out of contact with the, now, hot pads. This will help the rotor to cool more evenly and prevent the warp.

My Talon, according to a friend that drove it, is biased a little heavier towards the front breaks than it needs to be. This could be the reason all this warpage has been happening form the start. I couldn't tell when I first bought it back in 94'. My previous car was a 75' Mercury Montego 2-door with a 351W so ANY improvement in brakes was greatly welcomed.

I had the same problem w/ dealer this week. 01 TL , rotors warped at 14K, resurfaced but no new pads. Now at 26K same problem. One dealer said I needed to pay, after a long drawn out argument, I got new pads and rotors (front only). I called customer service but they cant do a thing (honestly, dont waste your time. Here is a link to the TSB http://www.**********.com/tsb/B01-01...ake_pulses.pdf

Good luck.

The brakepad wear is normal. Warped rotors are NEVER normal. Honda cheaped out on our rotors, that's why there is a tsb. Insist the rotors be covered under warranty or raise a stink with Honda America.
