W....t.....fffff

So Im coming back from Jersey. Mind you ive been awake since 11 AM on Saturday. I left that night at 12 Midnight to come back to NC. I get 30 Mins away from my house (At this time ive been awake for almost a whole day without sleep) and I have to Work Sunday at 1. All Thats on my mind is SLEEP!! So I speed but I actually dont even notice how fast im going, I just thought everyone else was going slow. So I get pulled over 30 mins away from my house. I was going 89 in a 70 and He also put me on there for "Following too closely". I HAVE to go to court but my question is, Will a Lawyer really help? How much money do you think I would have to pay for court? I might get up to 7 points cause of this so I bet my insurance will go sky high. Is that true? I heard its also good to bring mom or pops or something idk. Anybody been in this situation? I was thinking of just going myself but idk if the presence of a lawyer can help. WHY!!!

Ohh yea forgot to mention the last ticket I got was in West Virginia when I was going from NC to NJ 2 years ago. I only get tickets when Im driving long ways. And thats it for tickets. Do you think the judge can drop all charges? or maybe Most. I just dont wanna get Owned.

I'm not sure if the laws in your area are the same as here in California, but can't you go to traffic school?

If that not an option, then in court ask the judge for traffic school.

Ask about a deferment. Some places let you pay more than you are supposed to and the ticket doesn't go on you record as long as you don't get another one for like 6 months. It can get expensive but it's worth it.

go to court and plead not guilty, they then will give you a second court date. go to second court date, 9 times out of 10 the officer will not show up. if the officer no shows tell the prosecutor you want the charge dismissed because of probable cause. they should dismiss the charge. if the officer shows up for the second court date plead guilty and go to traffic school. if has worked for me more than once. good luck.

Yeah def. ask for traffic school since you don't get pulled over often thye will prob grant it and save you some if not all the points. I had 6 points and never told my insurance, the points came off after two years and they never knew a thing. G/L!

Get a lawyer. No matter what. Whenever you go to court for anything get a lawyer. Everytime I get a speeding ticket I just hand my lawyer my ticket the next day and he 'takes care of it'. He just has me pay a big fine and I never have to go to court or get any points on my license. Moral of the story is, get a private lawyer, not a public pretender (a.k.a. Public Defender)

If you get a lawyer, you will more than likely pay the same amount as the ticket. Seeing how you have nothing to lose, why don't you call the police officer that pulled you over, his name and number should be on the ticket(if the number isn't, you can call the department and they'll give you his extension). Don't directly ask him to throw the ticket out, but kiss his ass a bit, maybe start a conversation about you don't understand how the whole process works, and then work in how you just wanted to get home. Just be sure you don't mention almost falling asleep because he can come back and say, well you shouldn't have been driving at all. Hopefully if he is understanding, he might even tell you he won't show up for court, therefore the ticket will be tossed out.

Only other advice would be to dress presentably in a shirt and tie to court, and own up to your actions in front of the judge, maybe tell him you were aware you were going around 85ish and not closer to 90. If they take some mph off the offense, the ticket should go down a bunch.

Yea, and to continue rambling...I know in Florida max amount of points is like 4...so 7 seems way to excessive. (well unless you are getting 4 for speeding and 3 for tailgating)

Im confused as to why I didnt have to sign the ticket and why there is no price for the ticket. He just said I HAVE to show up in court and thats it. But There is No Price on the Ticket. And sistom..were you ever going over 19 mph the limit?

Mine was 400$, my girlfriend's was 705$, and my cousin's was 1000$. But none of us had to go to court and none of us got any points on our license. So you just have to decide if it is worth it to you I guess.

well I don't know about that. I don't pay for my lawyer. We own a marina and so we let him dock his boat for free and he gets free boat work done to it so I don't have a clue as to how much it cost. Sorry I can't be of more help... lol

Well in NJ... you can plea unsafe driving instead of any moving violations. You can use this twice every 5 years and what they do is eliminate all points and have you pay a larger fine. So you have to go to court plea guilty to unsafe driving, then you're off the hook. Call a lawyer up and ask for his advice cuz idk what the deal is in NC, but good luck man.

Lawyer is always the way to go just from personal experience. They will try to talk to into accepting some stupid shit that you have no idea what it means if they think they can slide it past you since you don't have a lawyer present. Just my

Looks like he didn't give you the option to pay for the ticket. That most likely is a "Notice To Appear" in which case you might get a warrant for if you don't show up.
