vtec controller

i was talking to my cousin yesterday and he said he may be able to get me a good deal on a vtec controller... what i wanna know is how much hp (if any) can i get from this? or if it only adjusts when the vtec kicks in? i searched but didnt find an answer to those questions. i have a stock 2003 tl-s so will it make much of a difference? im also getting a cai soon.

from what i've heard, these offer minimal to no power gains, and a good chance of screwing up your engine. just another cool looking toy.

Exactly how much I couldn't say, but previous posts here, say to get any gains you have to have your car dyno'd and the controller calibrated after install for optimal results. Just a heads up.

I don't think it will increase you hp, all it's doing is advancing the VTEC to kick in earlier. The only thing you will notice is probably the lower gas mileage. I personaly would not mess with the ECU like that, your just asking for trouble later on.

uhh...........i got mine tuned and got a big hp gain with my cold air intake, pulleys, and exhaust.......gotta get it retuned when i get my headers in. they can fix ur air / fuel ratio and get u more hp.....

it also looks good

they left my vtec at the same rpm cause when they dynoed it, it was the best time for vtec to kick in

but one thing.....i was takin my car in to the dealer and i didnt want them to see it, i tried disconnecting it from the middle harness and when i started the engine, the check engine light came on..........so i had to disconnect the v-afc.....disconnect the battery.....and 5 minutes later put the v-afc back on and it worked fine

i guess i can never take it off lol =P

hey numbaonexstunna,

I have had the v-afc for a while but i dont know where to install it.
Any ideas or pics of yours?

Another question is where did you get yours installed and dynoed? There is an apex dealer here in AZ should i take it there? They said $200 for install and tuning. How much did you pay?

If you could please e-mail me: Bug230@yahoo.com

thank you soooooooo much!!!!!!!!!

V-AFC is good when you have a few mods in the engine and you want your ECU to use them better together as a combination. Stock engine won't benefit one bit from the controller.

i've read post about resetting your ECU to basically read your new mods. they take out the ECU fuse and disconnect the battery. the ECU is supposed to lose the past information and will adjust itself to the engine with the mods. i have done this but didnt notice anything but with a 75shot of NOS its hard to notice.

i got it done by balanced performance here in georgia...they did a great job

cost me 75 to install and 125 to tune...so just at 200$....they dynoed my car about 15 times so i guess it evens out

i have it sitting right above my steering wheel........kinda gets in the way & wanna move it

im buying a sunglass holder piece for him to change to fit the v-afc

You may or may not see much hp gain BUT it really does make the motor more responsive. My A/F ratios saw some significant changes. I have the works (I/H/E). Mounted it in the glove box. I did not want it out for prying eyes to see. It slips neatly along the side. I gave it some extra cord so it can be easily held and seen when adjustments are needed/wanted. It is not something you want to play around with in your garage.

One piece I highly recommend is the wiring harness from Frog Engine Control. It makes the V-AFC a plug-n-play. You can disconnect it very easily... nice for those trips to the dealer

All in all, I would do other things first like headers, intake etc. I do notice a difference in the cars behavior after installing the V-AFC.

only if urs is a DOHC VTEC engine..or else it's not effective at all...

the main purpose of the controller is to switch the camshaft at earlier rpm to get faster accel...since our car has only one camshaft, no pt for using this at all

I have to disagree due to the A/F ratio corrections. True, You won't get a big bump in hp, at least I did not, but there definately is an improvement.
