Could someone please provide the information for our 17-characters VIN #? The first 2 numbers appear to be the year
and month the vehicle is manufacured but what are the rest.....

 

umm..... i don't know, my vin starts with 19, what does that mean?!?!

but i think the last few digits indicate how many cars of the same model have been produced? for example if you have 2939 that means your car is the 2939th produced. that's what i heard.

Correct. 10th digit in any VIN on 1981 and newer cars is the year of manufacture. Sometimes it is a letter, which corresponds to a year. Updates for the 2002 models from the above list:

19U- Same

UA5- Same

6-Same

(Vehicle Grade)
6=Non Type-S, no navi
7=Non Type-S, navi
8=Type-S, no navi
9=Type-S, navi

*=Check digit - assigned number to the VIN series that when checked against a mathematical formula verifies that the VIN conforms to NCIC standards. Basically an internal check to make sure the VIN is real and not made up. Mostly used by police department auto theft units when investigating fraudulent VINs.

Last 6 are always serial number. And yes, the serial numbers on US cars start with 0 and Canadian spec cars start with 8.

Thanks for the information. Does the last 6-digit (serial number) contains the month and day the vehicle is manufactured? I saw some posts that said the month and date is on the upper right hand corner of a sticker on the door edge of the driver door. I only see my VIN on my door sticker.
