Vibrating rear view mirror

While driving, my rear view mirror vibrates. For those who have a system in your car, it's a lot like when the bass hits, but mine is all the time. It's hard to look in your rear view when the headlights behind you are blurry. Any idea's how to fix it? Is there something loose? BTW, I don't have a system in my car.

I had the same problem.

Here's what I posted back in July of 2008:

About a year after I replaced it, my rearview mirror would start to work its way off the mounting bracket. It didn't make any noise but it could tell it was loose from the shaking of the reflected image. Attempting to push it more firmly into place did not help. I didn't want to apply too much force because others have cracked their TL windshields doing this.

So here's what I did to correct the problem. I removed the mirror entirely and I applied a very thin coat of silicone sealant between the two interlocking sections of the mounting bracket. I did that months ago and the mirror has not loosened since.

Silicone sealant will allow you to remove the mirror down the road. You can also use a latex based caulk.

For removing the mirror, here's a great DIY thread with photos by forum member 6MTUA5:

the only reason i still have a mirror is silicone. you can use hot glue to hold it in place while the silicone cures, or do what i did and use a cardboard box of perfect length.
but my mirror actually fell off in the middle of a turn, but its because i have a 7 inch screen on it and way too much bass. i broke the weld on my trunk latch a couple months ago at a car show poundin a milli. that song makes ears bleed. good thing i had a drill and some screws with me. NO i didn't drill through the trunk or anything i just re attached the latch with some self tappers.
