Vibrating iRotors

I had my iRotors (front and rear) and Green Stuff brake pads (front and rear) installed last night and my steering wheel vibrates like crazy when stopping. It happens from both slow and fast speeds.

Has anyone else had issues right out of the box with these rotors? I've got 22 miles on them now. I can understand if it started and gradually got worse after several thousand miles.

Any suggestions?

Sent you a PM in regards to this. The issue is the there is metal around the Slotted section of the rotor, and when you apply the brakes, the metal shavings are hitting the pads, causing it too shake. Drive the car normally for about 2 weeks, and the vibrating will all be gone. I have EBC's on now, and although the rotors still shake (only driven 300km), the shaking has gotten a lot better. Now it only shakes when I apply the brakes from <110km/h.

Yeah... I had it shake like crasy for the first 200-300 kms... it should go away pretty quickly...

Make sure you break them in ... by doing a few runs from 40 - 20 and then from 60 - 20 and then maybe from 80 - 60 (do not stop completely)... also make sure you drive a little after like 4-5 runs to cool em off a little. After that they should feel just like the normal brakes with a LOT more BITE...

Thanks for the information. I'll try them for awhile (after breaking them in) and see if it goes away.

I'm just wondering if everyone that has put these rotors on has noticed this "severe shaking break in" period.

I just had mine installed today. For the 1st few mins the car shakes like crazy. But then after about an hr or so of driving it got better. It stills shakes a tiny bit tonight, I think by tomorrow it'll be gone completely

Ya guys,

my brakes are about 50 times better then when I first put them on. At first, the wheel shook from 60 km/h...now the wheel only shakes about about 120 km/h...by next week, I will be able to stomp on the pedal from 240 and no shaking will occur.

I think that because my EBC pads are aggressive, the rotors have to really take a beating first before they bed in nicely/properly. Otherwise, I'm happy with everything, the SS brake lines really change the feel of the pedal...

Yeah.. I was going to get the SS lines... but I heard some stories and don't know what to believe... To be safe just make sure you check all your brake fittings at least once a month.

Will do. In about 2-3 weeks I'm gonna go back to the mechanic and see if he can apply some more anti-squeal on the brake pads. They are squealing like there's no tomorrow...hopefully he can fix that.

Anyways take care guyz...

if the SS lines are DOT approved they are safe to use and you dont need to check the fittings once amonth

YEAH .. but what does DOT mean...? that it passes some tests ?..

Just look at our trannys. I'm sure they obviously went throught and passed whatever tests was required, and the inherent failure still seemed to pass and make it into production.

Anyway... All I'm saying is take care and don't just go by a label. They are your brakes after all..

BTW: I have yet to see a production car come stock with SS lines. Why is that ??? Don't say cost !

yea that is the correct mileage for my car. runs like new

Dept of Transportation. it means that it passes the tests needed to be legal for use on the road (offroad). if you buy a good set of SS lines you wont have any issues. i have used them on cars that i used for racing and drove daily for quite a few years now and never had any problems with them.

and for as to why they dont put them on cars, cost is one part of it the other is fo 99% of the cars out there/and there owners they arent needed

Cool... curious .. do you have em on the TL? don't see it in your sig.

I am still undecided and might eventually get em.. but not right now

I don't agree that its because of cost ... there are a lot of exotic cars and sports cars (where cost is usually not a factor) and even they dont have em... I remember reading that most of the italian exotics sport cars use some sort of plastic/PVC line and not SS. (can't remember where now).

Yes, this is an interesting observation. There are many production super cars out there with 400-500 hp, such as 911 turbo, SL55, etc. They have cross-drilled and slotted rotors, Brembo calipers, but none with SS brake lines !!

they will be fine. slotted rotors during the first hundred miles or so sill fell like they are slightly warped. its just the pads and slots breaking in. (every set of slotted rotors (5 pair including 1 brembo big brake kit and 1 wilwood big brake kit) did this

Well, I started this thread about 100miles ago. Now that the pads and rotors are bedded they feel a lot better. I still haven't stood on them or been back at 80-90 mph yet, but at city street speeds they are smooth.

Thanks to all who chimed in to put me at ease. Hope all you iRotor people are enjoying!

just put my irotors on this weekend and ebc greenstuff pads. experience the vibrating inside of 200 miles, now I'm up to around 400 miles and it has smoothed out, no vibrating. Had one problem though, had a defective rear rotor. Had to send it back and they are sending out a new one.

I have a quick question for you. How do you know, or what symptoms were you experiencing to warrant replacing the rear rotor? Were you getting a pulsation in seats?

let me know

thanks

I must be the exception. I had absolutly no vibrations after installing the Rotora slotted and Axxis Deluxe Plus pads.

fstyms i read some article a while back that SS lines arnt safe even with the DOT approved tests. all that DOT means it has the standard fittings and what not and doesnt have other stuff basically. do your research as i found out they are not as safe as you think they are.

well so far I've done about 2500km (1500 miles) with the SS lines on the car and have had absolutely no problems. I love the way the pedal feels.

BTW just to clarify, are you saying that because of the SS lines the pedal will vibrate a little bit? I don't know if that makes sense, but it might since I did replace the brake lines with something other than stock.

Can you clarify this?

I too have no vibrations with my Rotora slotted rotors and Axxis Ultimate pads installed 14K kms ago. Just the damn brake dust, so hard to keep the wheels clean.
