VAFC Installed and running, well almost (pic) / new take on an old shift knob (pic)

Well I installed my VAFC. Realized that the cable was not going to reach. I will be getting an extension soon. Here's the pics of it running. Gotta get it tuned, might wait till after I get UR pulleys.

The controller slides down when the sunglass holder is opened so you can see it better from the driver's seat.

As for the shift knob, I took a TypeS knob and painted the TypeS emblem Satin Silver to match the rest of the interior. Oh and BTW, the threads on the TypeS knob are much smaller than on my 99. I had to drill out the hole with a 3/8" drill bit and form new threads to get it to fit.

The VAFC slides on an aluminum plate that rides in a track that is in either side of controller. It was a b!tch to get it to work right.

The trim still looks great. I had the center console pieces professionally painted. Two reasons:

1) I wasn't sure I could do it myself
2) It is probably going to take the most abuse

Shift knob wasn't too bad. Once I figured out what size bit I needed. Screwing it onto the stalk was tough. This is what created the new threads. I had to wrap it with a towel to get more leverage.

Hey, does anyone know the VTEC settings for the 99TL?

Lo-Hi rpm setting
Hi-Lo rpm setting

I've been playing around with it, but cannot figure it out.

if u wanna tune the vafc... it would be best to take it to a shop so they can dyno tune it for you. if not, i doubt you'll see any gains from it.

I have to agree.

Plus, with a NA engine the only thing it *may* help with is fuel economy and possibly VERY minor throttle response.

Usually they are used with turbos...

No dude, these are basic settings. Without these the car doesn't shift into VTEC correctly.

Anybody help me?

Yeah:
I did a lot of research for this and held off as I'm going the way of the sc in all likelihood and the v-afc is a moot point...
You can do some basic tuning without a dyno, but you need to have a pro spend an hour or two tuning it. You'll see modest gains of likely no more than 15hp/15tq...
I'd check a-cl.com and those guys would likely be able to tell you who in your area can get this done for you...

ps--I wouldn't screw with it if you don't know what you are doing as you can actually hinder your performance as well...

I believe the basic settings for low to high 4,800 rmp and high to low 4,600 rpm.

Other than that, I have to agree with the others, go for a pro to dyno tune.

Not on the 99TL. That's way too high. Our VTEC kicks in much lower than that.

Anybody help me?

There are NO general settings on a VAFC. I was fooling around withx-over points on my car, and fuel crap, then I got it on a dyno and its leaned out as much as 20% at some RPM increments. ANyway, Sell it if its only gonna be a show piece, go get the car tuned.

I have no idea what I paid for it. I got it in a groupbuy over a year ago and just finally got around to installing it.
