TL wins hands down. I have a '98 GT conv. and I must say that even though its quicker than my TL, the TL holds it's own. Just can't beat the 300+ torque on the low end. That's stock vs. stock. I don't know about modified since neither of my cars are but I know there are many aftermarket mods that can be make either car fast.

isn't he asking about the V6 versions? Those are pretty slow. The GT isn't 6 cyl. is it? I thought it was an 8. We should be able to beat a V6 pretty easily.

The 1999+ Mustangs with a V-6 are pretty quick. Ford changed the rear axle ratios to give them faster acceleration. A friend of mine has an automatic 99 Stang and I raced him in a rented Maxima (base version) also with an auto tranny. He pulled on me from 0-80. That Max had no guts at all. All in all, the TL should have no problem versus the newer V-6 Mustangs as long as it's an automatic. I don't know how we'd do against a 5 speed. The 98 and older Mustangs weren't quite as fast and we might be able to hang with the V-8 variety, although I'm unsure about that. The 99+ Stang GTs - fuhgettaboutit. They run mid 5s to 60.

Rice, what i'm saying is that mustang, ect. are just a different class than the TL. The TL is a sports sedan, while the others are sports cars.
"apples and oranges"

It's all about hp and weight of the car...

I believe a 00 V-6 Camaro Stick goes 0-60 in 7.3 seconds and runs a 1/4 in 15.8 seconds. That's very close compared to 0-60 7.4 second and 1/4 of 15.8 on the TL. But with an AUTO tranny going just as fast as the V-6 Camaro, the TL should have the upper hand because it is more consisent. Only a skilled driver driving the stick Camaro could beat the TL on a street run.

It's all about hp and weight of the car...

first, the original implied question is who would win in a straight line. you responded that the TL would not stand a chance which is total bs. It's rather obvious that the TL is not a sports car. I don't even consider it to be a real sports sedan - acura just advertises it as one for sales purposes. If it was, it would be RWD and weigh a lot less with the option of a manual trany.

second, no it's not all about hp and weght. How about rwd and gearing and torque curve and a million other things?

Rice, I agree with the first part. Yeah, the acura probably will win or lose depending on factors such as driver skill and million other factors.

Secondly, weight and HP has everything to do with a drag race. To go faster you lighten the car. I agree with the rwd and the others you mentioned but the you must agree with me when I say HP and weight makes a huge difference.

well, the V6 Mustangs are actually pretty quick. my friend has a 2000 Mustang V6 with manual tranny, he beat me off the line for about 2 car lengths, but starting from about 45MPH, I pulled up with him and beat him at 80MPH. GTs, I don't think so at all... h/i/e with nitro and a manual tranny might do it, with SC, yeah...

Yo REd, i raced my neighbor's 2000 Stang as well. Whe knows how to drive really well too, and I burned her so badly. I was like 2 car lengths in front of her the whole way to 75mph. We were both running stock. Don't know what's up, oh well. Yeah can't forget about the tits!

Her tits probably added on an extra 100 elbows to the ride's weight. We're comparing tits to bannanas here.

Mustang V6 manual...two words "No Problem"
Still want to see how it'll do against camero. I love to show those import haters a good view of my TL'S ass as I take off on them off the line. See if they talk down on an import again!!!!

A friend's stock Mustang V6 5spd ran 15 flat maybe even a high 14.9 on a 50 degree night at the track in Houston, TX... bone stock, stock tires, no mods... At another track I saw a 5spd V6 Mustang with K&N filter and MagnaFlow exhaust run 15.2's all night but he said he was having problems hooking up.

Its the driver not the car... You race a good 5spd driver and that Mustang V6 5spd will spank your stock TL.

The Auto V6 Mustang is another story... I haven't seen any track times for them, but my encounters on the street (when my car was still stock) lead me to believe a stock TL should beat one with no problems.

I don't really know anything about the Camaro's though. Don't let your Honda/Acura pride make you think you can kick every V6 car you meet on the street... chances are if its a V6 and 5spd, prepare to lose if you are still stock, V6 and Auto, then you should most likely win.

5spd Camry's, Solora's, Maxima's and Celica's all run as low as 14.9 stock with a good driver... I've seen the timeslips for every one of these cars.

The 99+ V6 Stangs have 190hp. I've seen slips with them pulling 15.5's stock which isn't bad. The older 6s are slugs. I don't know the specs on the fbodys but I've beat every one I've reaced. Those cocky posuers need to be put in their place every now and then. I've always though if you want a stang, buy a STANG, not that V6 crap.
