<<URGENT>> please help. Power Steering Wheel

Hello all,

I was topping all my fluid this morning. Stupid me, I freankin pure brake fluid in the power steering wheel container. Luckily, I realized it early after puring the brake fluid, it didnt feel right so i refered to the maual and I was like WTF. Anyways, I took the container out and I washed it with water and soad and let it dry for 4 hours. Now, I pured the right fluid in the container, but it makes alots of noise.

The brake fluid didnt mixed intirely with P.S fluid because I realized it right after I pured the brake fluid and the engine was turned off.

I read the manual and it said that you should Acura or Honda PS fluid. If you use a aftermarket fluid, you should flush out the fluid and redo it with Acura or Honda fluid.

Right now my fluid is below the "Low level". I pured in one bottle of Acura in the container. Since the Acura parts is closed today.

Questions:

what P.S fluid would you guys recommand?
Is the noise from the PS because it has low fluid?

Any input would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Brake Fluid is pretty nasty stuff when it comes in contact with things its not supposed to. If you are sure you just poured in a little, and drained it all out, then get some Honda fluid, and fill it up all the way. The steering will make noise if the fluid level is too low,

To be safe, Id recommend flushing all the fluid out, and replacing it with new fluid. use only Honda/Acura fluid.

Well after disconecting it did you turn the wheel lock to lock slowly a few times to completly fill the system and bleed any air out.

after opening it up and draining fluid out the system was low on fluid. air got into the system. Turning the wheel from lock to lock slowly a few times will bleed the air out and get fluid into teh whole system. also afterwards double check the fluid level

the best way to bleed the system is to have the front wheels of the ground (with a jack) and turn the wheel from lock to lock with the car NOT running. if you have the car running its just going to recirculate the air. I just got done with a really bad experience with my power steering. but its fixed and that's how I bled it.

If the pump isnt running (ie motor not running how is it supposed to push the fluid thru the system to expel the air?

I honestly couldn't tell you, but when I had that power steering problem. I tried bleeding it several different ways, even the way you had told me to bleed it, and it still had a ton of air, the resevoir was foaming over. Anyway, I did a Google search for bleeding power steering systems, and that's when I read that the engine has to be off. When I tried it I had my wife turn the wheel while I watched the fluid in the resevoir and bubbles were coming out.... alot. After that, no more air and no more foam. I couldn't really tell you how it's supposed to work, I can only tell you that it does work.
You should give it try. Even if you dont have air in the system it wont hurt it. You could even turn the wheel itself(with the car on jacks) and see that the fluid is moving in the resevoir. I wouldn't lie to ya.

Means turning the steering wheel as far as it will go, in both directions left and right.

Ive done mine a couple times now due to the swap and a ps pum going out and the replacement being bad and every time i turned it lock to lock with it running a few times(like the manual says and it worked perfectly

I guess it works both ways. I don't know, never read the manual.... are you talkin about the owners manual or like a repair manual. Like the saying goes "theres more than one way to skin a cat" right.

Might be hard in the beginning but there is no need to jack up the front. Lock-to-lock several times will rid the system of air.

Disconnect the lower hose on the PS res and let drain into a container, keep hose into the container your draining into and have someone start the car and slowly turn the wheel Lock to lock until its all drained out. Shut car off, reconnect the lower hose and fill the PS res container. Start the car and Slowly turn wheel lock to lock to get all air out, topping off fluid as necessary

It shouldnt take long at all to do it. I can do it in under 30 min taking my time. Lock to Lock 1 to 2 is usually enough. You will know when the fluid stops coming out and when the system stops taking on fluid when filling.
