Post upgraded NAVI

I asked the dealer when our upgraded disc is suppose to come and they said at end of each year. I have a 2000 TL and the version i have is v1.09(i think) and i think CL's have v2.0. But want i'm gonna do is trade with my friend for awhile and make a copy of it or try to. Has anyone tried this? Anyone with a 2002, can you check what version you guys got. Maybe if we ALL call acura and ask for it(since its out and its free) we can get it.
What do you guys think?

The disc is a DVD, so I have no idea how you're going to copy it without buying a VERY expensive DVD copier.

Now the DVD upgrade is Far from free!

The DVD upgrade is $162, so you were extremely misinformed about the price. Some dealers carry the upgrade, but not my dealer. I had to order mine straight from Alpine through an 800 number.

You can check with the dealer so see if the update included your area, they should have a paper with what was updated, and if it wasn't, it's really not worth buying it.

Thats why I did not upgrade mine this year.
Acura now has 6 models that have Nav in them 7 with the minivan from Honda. The upgrade should be out in September or October. The upgrade is not Free for sure.If anybody tells some of you it is they are yanking your chain.

DVD burners aren't all *that* expensive now-a-days.

There's no DVD burner on the market today that can burn DVD discs which can be read by any read-only DVD drive (i.e. your DVD navi system).

Well, I think Pioneer does make one. Read-only DVD drive can read the disc that it burns. But the unit cost like $7000 Canadian Dollors. So... it's no DVD-RAM or DVD-RW but indeed a DVD-R...

The most recent update was in October of last year, and is version 2.03. There is, however, am extensive update to be released this September. Rumours are it will be almost 33% bigger than the current version (at least what the Alpine lady told me).

Correct.. you can get the drive for about $5000 US. Or, dude here at work just found, you can get a Mac or a custom Compaq pc for $2000 that is setup to burn these compatible dvd-r discs.. hell, buy the computer just for the drive since it is cheaper than the $5000 drive. Guy here is about to do that. And yes, the discs do read in a standard DVD drive.

Question

Does anyone know if any of the software that runs teh navi is on the DVD? The DVD in Japan has the 99 hard disk slot AND the DVD drive part. Just curious to know if acura can add features or its only in the hardware.

There is a ton of construction in the 5 boroughs in NY. New exits, entrances and an airport train. so I won't get mine till after thats finished.

i read somewhere that economically, CD-R are better for manufacturers than DVD...CD-R cost like 1 buck/disc whereas DVD is more...therefore, companies would rather put out software on CD's. thats why DVD burners are expensive...not enough demand in teh market and companies dont realy put software out on DVD as opposed to CD's

My 2002 TL came with version 2.03 of the DVD, same as the 2001. The lady at the 800# told me the same thing about this years release being so much better, and the price is yup, you guessed it $152.

Question

A while back, other members mentioned that the latest Acura DVD is like a year or more behind the latest Alpine aftermarket disk. Can anyone comment on this?
