Updated Navigation DVD?
I have been thinking for some time about upgrading (have the original DVD from '00 when i bought the car new) and there have been significant changes in the Long Island and greater NY area. However, the $150 is kinda step and my salesman said (at the time or purchase and of course I don't have it in writing ) that the first upgrade is free.
I have a DVD Writer and was thinking of purchasing the DVD and making copies of it (don't start flaming about the legality of it, thanks ) and distributing it to people if they are interested. It will require a donation of $25 and that will include shipping in the continental US. If you are interested post here with you email address and how many you would like (just in case friends don't post on this board and would like a copy).
Its a win/win situation
This forum will receive a donation and you will get a updated navigation DVD for s fraction of the cost. I'm interested to hear your opinions on this........

Hey Andrew,
Is it fact that you can copy Navigation DVD?? Somebody already tried it, and it never worked out because it doesn't have enough Memory space.
If you can do it for sure, I am down for it.

Not this topic again! Seriously though--I thought someone already tried it and said that it wouldn't boot up. In any case, I would imagine if Honda/Acura and/or the vendor that creates the Nav DVD put any kind of decent copy protection on it, I don't think that any consumer-grade DVD burner/software can burn a mirror image of it. Look at it this way--I haven't following PS/PS2 disc copying lately but last I checked, it wasn't possible to burn an exact disc image of one--yes, you can copy the game data off of one but AFAIK I haven't heard of any consumer-grade CD/DVD burner software that can correctly burn the encrypted boot data that exists on the PS discs. I can see Acura doing the same thing (putting encrypted boot data) on the Nav DVDs...

i have a dvd-rw and a dvd+rw writer and i can help
most copy protected cds can be copied perfectly, provided you have RAW/DAO capable hardware, software and media
the foremost barrier to copy protection of any media is the capacity of the disc
i.e. you can't copy a 900MB cd to a 700MB cd-r
i will check how bug the navigation dvd-rom is tonight and see what i find
anyone with technical expertise is welcome to flood this forum with their experience
