Underbody Kit Question

When I got my 2001 3.2TL used, I was delighted that it had the underbody kit installed and even more ecstatic that the thing was in fantastic condition. I notice that there are two black - what I presume to be plastic - placeholders on the left and right of the underbody front section, though. Some TL's I have seen have lights there and, personally, I think that really completes the "I my TL! " look. Can I get those lights installed? Could I do it myself? Or do I just need to pull my head out of the clouds and aim the nearest hammer at my forehead?

I second that, you sound weird. The two spaces you are talking about are for the fog lights that were never provided as an option for the US TL. These spaces are were fog lights go on the Japanese version called the Honda Inspire.

However if novacthall wants to add aftermarket fog lights to the corner pockets, it is definitely a doable mod. It's a biatch to get them installed (depending on size and type of fog lights), but definitely cool looking. I like the way mine turned out.

Indeed, but that doesn't answer my question.

I'll even third it, although I don't quite see how you arrived at the conclusion from one post. Either way, I have seen TL's driving around my area with the fog lights and, last I checked, Connecticut wasn't in Japan. I could be mistaken, though.

Now we're getting somewhere. Yes, those are exactly what I'm talking about. I don't quite so much mind difficult just so long as the ends justify the means. I believe it may be a Type-S component, but I'm not sure about that. I don't have to have a Type-S if I want the lights, right? Patrick, any advice you could impart would be greatly appreciated.

And for the nay-sayers, here's a photo of the lighting.

Come on, cut the guy some slack. Not everybody speaks "car".

To answer your question, they are not Type-S specific, I have them on mine and I have a TL-P. You could always buy the OEM fog lights, they are 2-3 hundred if I recall correctly.

I don't even speak English half the time and it's my first language. Thank you for the vote of confidence, though.

Anywhoo...

What does the "P" stand for in "TL-P?" If I get the OEM lights, can I install them myself? Will I have to remove the front lip to take out the black plastic things or do I need to buy a whole new lip? What about electrical wiring? I didn't see anything about that in the manual.

o my...

-P= premium = basic TL 225hp
-S = -S = cool TL 260hp

i still dont know what you are trying to say, i cant help you...sry. Can someone else shed me some light please?

If its foglights ON the black plastic on your bumper...the -S fogs wont fit. the 3.5RL's are the closest match yet not perfect. IF you want these you'll need to cut out the BLACK things you say...
The other way is to buy -S hood, -S lights and -S bumper...theres no way to make the -S bumper fit with -P hood and lights. <----this is a no, no..

I'd recommend you buy non-specific regular fog lights, cut a figure matching the foglight's form on the BLACK corner pockets and stick em in there. Wiring will depend on what you want the lights to do.

He has a 2001 TL. He sees the fake air holes on the side and assumes that these can be cut out and install fog lights in them. However, he's assuming that you can use the 02+ TL components. Just like etxxz mentioned above, that would require many other parts including bumper, hood, headlights, and some extra little stuff.

etxxz also mentions the RL fogs fitting into the fake air holes pockets. I actually talked to some1 who did this and he mention how hard it was to mount these and they weren't exact fit. So just be wary of these issues.

I think that is what he's asking..........

If you really want fogs on the 99-01 TL. Here are some options
1) You can do a whole front convertion to the 02-03 TL. But this is the most expensive option. You are looking at $3k-$5k. Too much unless you got into a frontal accident or something.

2) You can just install some aftermarket fogs into the middle intake channel. This is what I did because I wanted fogs without too much hassel. I was too lazy to cut out the fake air holes and I rather not because it might hurt resale value. You would really need small fogs for this purpose. Cost around $40-$100.

3) Next would be to cut the fake air hole area and install some aftermarket fogs. I think this is what you wanted to do. Make sure the fogs are big enough to fit so it looks good without it being too oversized. Here is Benzo555's car with PIAA fogs. Cost around $40-$150.

4) Next up is the 98-02 Accord EX 4 dr fogs. These acutally mount nicely inside the cut holes. It acutally looks OEM. Here is Paul's (songoku) car and he was the one to come up with this mod. Cost around $200-$350.

5) Next up would be to buy the JDM (Jap Dom. Market) Inspire/Saber bumper. The Inspire and Saber are the equvilent of the USDM TL, but they came with fogs. It's cost around $1k+ to import the whole bumper plus the cost of the fog lights itself.

6) This is the best option but also expensive. You can get also import the Value bumper (JDM also) and it cost around $1.2k+ if can find an importer + the cost of the fog light itself.

Fog light wiring is pretty simple. Don't concern yourself with it until you have the fogs. Aftermarket wires up differently then the OEM parts would. I have included est. cost for these installs, price variations includes different model fogs, the cost also takes into consideration the tools you might need to buy to complete the project. Usually keep an eye out on ebay and you can find some great deals on fog lights. If you have any addition questions, please feel free to PM me, as I might miss this thread later on.

Wow. I'm still recovering from the conciseness and thoroughness of your post, but that answered every question I had and opened my eyes to new options. Thank you for all the information.

Now, only one question remains to be asked: Where can I buy this stuff? In the end, I'm going to go with what looks the best, so I'm not really looking at price as much. I can save up for a while if I need to.
