ultimate rice for tl-s but this is for people like me!!!
Our cars have vtec right..? so how do we tap into vtec for a vtec light? i know of prelude people who have put simple blue leds for their vtec, basically when vtec engauges the light comes on....i know all we have to do is tap into the ecu for the vtech wire...does anyone have the helms manual going to the ecu that says vtec signal? its suppose to be an easy mod....help please
thanks

I remember that little mod. I forgot all about it! Till you mentioned it!! HEHE! I'm gonna put that in..and wire it up to a set of blue lights. I heard it's sort of hard....you have to find the VTEC Solenoid or something. Who knows, I'll figure it out...I'm gonna ask around.
#3
yep yep that mod isnt suppose to be hard tho....the only thing you need is to tap into the signal where the ecu has a vtec line in it, its very easy all you need is a blue led and a resistor ground the cathode side and run a line from the anode to the vtec wire...my only question is which wire is it again?
#5
you got it...ive been lookin on ebay they been selling buch of vtec light for 20 bucks im trying to get them to send me a copy of the wiring digram they all say its an easy install...i guess we'll just have to wait....

I have the wiring diagrams. I needed it cause Apexi couldn't help me out when I had my Apexi V-AFC installed, so we had to use them and then tap into everything in order to make it work.
What are you talking about though with tapping into the vtec for a vtec light? Where would the light be at and what would be the purpose? Could you all please explain or something... thanks.

Hook it up with the diagram AFitchTLS! Please!
The reason for a light is the "fun factor" basically....we tap into the VTEC with a little LED light..so when we engage into VTEC, the LED would light up, until we get out of VTEC. it's just for fun.

got it dude.....have fun guys
About the mod:
Ok, your reading this, thinking "VTEC light? that is so rice" well, at one time I would have agreed with you however, I found a need for it. My main reason for installing the light is because, on the SOHC VTEC engine, you can barely feel the VTEC engage as it is much less tell whether or not it disengages in between shifts. So now with this light, I can tell whether or not I have let the engine go out of VTEC mode when I am racing. (More or less its just another gauge to give you information). So having explained myself, I have also included the installation instructions along with part numbers. Enjoy.
Well, I'll start off by listing the Radio Shack part numbers that I used for this installation:
Package of 330 OHM resistors Part# 271-1113
5mm LED of your choice, I choose a Blue on Part# 276-311
Roll of 18-gauge wire, I got a three color package of solid core but stranded would be better (solid core part# 278-1223)
Snap-in LED mount Part# 276-079
Tap-in clips Part# 64-3052
Installation:
Now that you have all the parts, we will get started.
1.Figure out where you are going to mount your LED and drill a 1/4" hole.
2.Solider the two wires to the two leads from the LED (the longer of the two leads is the positive lead The shorter lead is the ground.) Solder the resistor in line with the ground wire (I soldered one end of the resistor to the ground lead on the LED and the other end to the wire) making sure that the wire is long enough to reach from the mounting location to the right side of the passenger seat near where your right foot would be if you were in the passenger seat).
3.Put one of the snap-in LED mounts into the hole that you made. Next insert the LED from behind, into the snap-in connector (you will feel a little click when it is in all the way).
4.Run the cable to the ECU location (near the right foot area of the passenger side). Take out the two plastic retainers for the ECU cover and pull off the cover ( it may take some force, but it wont break).
5.Unplug the two plugs that are closest to you on the bottom of the ECU (there are a total of three plugs, but you don't need to unplug the third). On the furthest plug of the two (the one for my car is Grey), locate the VTEC signal wire (Green with a yellow stripe). Once you find the VTEC wire, attach the positive lead from the LED to it using one of the tap-in clips. If you look under the glove box in the same side as the ECU, you will see a phillips screw, You can strip off some of the ground lead and attach it to this screw. reattach the ECU plugs and put everything back together and test it out.
If you did everything correctly the LED should come on when the VTEC engages.

Well guess you don't need the diagram after all.
That sounds like a neat lil thing but I guess I don't need it cause of my V-AFC. I can put it in different modes and do graphs and record my run as well while watching the vtec and rpms and other things that it features. Thanks for the info though.

Wow i guess VTEC puts out even more power when it has a light...if you can't afford a real mod...get a job or wait until mommy gets her next paycheck. and yes this is hating, i'm not disgusing it as otherwise..
Elite: tsk tsk tsk, cmon man a VTEC light???

Damn! Yeah..I knew about the AccordV6 one...I used to surf there. Yes..he was a mod
Mikey....you got a lovely rep going on. but like you said..this is just the internet...you know...us people shouldn't get hurt with such words. although...i'm sure you know this is real people, and real people has feelings...even if it's comments over the internet.

Back on the topic here. I forgot all about this idea, it may be "rice" whatever you want to call it but I like it, it's funny. I appreciate asiankidd for posting it, but alas I have a question/request for him.
Would you be able to let me/us know which wire is for the signal when the 2nd stage intake manifolds butterfly's valves are "open" (I forgot what it was called ) You know what mean. . How about two LED's to alert the engagement of each one respectively.
I don't give a sh1t what some may think, it's simply entertainment for myself
And yes these Lights will add aproximately 30HP, it's been dyno proven I tell ya!:p
Thanks. asiankidd

Hey, that is cool. Two lights. I had a light on my Legend when my butterfly valve for the ram air intake opened up. I also made it with a switch so I could turn off the light when I wanted. But I think for the dual-stage induction, the power is always on to keep the valve closed and when it opens, the power is off. At least that was how it was on my Legend and I assume it's the same since it opened at exaclty 3800 rpm just like the TL-S does. But if I'm wrong here, it would be cool to have a yellow and a red LED. The yellow one for the dual-stage induction, and the red for the V-TEC. I would mount them near the gear shift plate. Yellow then red when you give it some nice gas.

hey! that is nifty! two lights...haha! let's see if asiankidd knows.
as for it being rice. I mean...IMO...it appears any f*cking thing you do is considered rice...plus...i hate using the term rice...it refers to us asian people. if you know what I mean. I mean..can't we just call it ghetto instead of rice? I mean....if I was to put a wing any higher then the factory one..people would think it's "rice", if I put a nice cool lighting accesseries (sp?) people would think that's "rice" also. I think it's getting out of hand.
okay....back to the subject. I would also use something other then a LED....because LED's are just too small...and during the day, you can't really see it.

haha real funny Mikey. just that little "gesture" is still pertaining negative comment. dude, if you think this is ghetto, just ignore it and don't post. Don't spoil it for other people.
Crav4speed, I like that idea. But for me, i rather have the whole world to know :p so I'm gonna use those little "Type R" lights that you plug into the cig lighter.
