All 3000GTs are heavy. And SL does not have THAT much power to pull itself efficiently.

It should be a close race, but I think you should win.

I race my friend in his 1992-1994 (not sure) 3000GT SL all the time, and I always win in the straights. What I notice is if he revs the engine and drops the clutch he almost always noses about 3ft in front, but by the time I shift to 2nd we are even, and when I’m shifting to 3rd I’m usually 1 car in front, and I keep pulling slowly until 105ish. My TL-S is stock except my K&N drop-in.

Yeah its a Mutsibishi. The SL is not the turbo one. Let me tell you those things turbo are sick don't even pull up. They have excellent handling stock. If it's not turbo you should beat him. Just do it and let us know what happens. Don't be scared to pull up to anyone. That is the enjoyment of racing not knowing what the other person has.

ha...even if it's a turbo...you have a good chance of winning because he might blow his tranny. A friend of mine had one of those and had 7 tranny's...Mitsubishi replaced all under warranty. He did abuse the car, 6000 RPM launches at the strip, but still the tranny should be stronger to handle all that power.

The VR4 is a four wheel drive turbo....put it this way, don't mess with them. The only difference between the SL and the base model is that the SL has the sunroof and leather seats. My friend has a '92 3000GT auto. That car is heavy, so I don't think you should have a problem even if he has stick.

Ray_Khan if your friend dropped in a turbo in the base model or the SL, then yea I can see why he had problems. The VR4s are simply amazing.

Alexxx...my buddy had the AWD twin turbo VR-4..it is a heavy pig...but a fast heavy pig. I think it's about 3800-3900 lbs. Pretty sure the VR-4's (possibly of just a certain year) had tranny problems. He had teh 6 speed manual.

well, think about it. you have all that horsepower and torque being transferred to all 4 wheels. these 4 wheels don't slip, so guess what feels the impact of an assload of force: the drivetrain.

If they can design a 320 hp engine, they should have designed and appropriate tranny to handle the power. What do you think people want to do to a 320 hp AWD car? Drive it like a granny? I don't think so. It was a known weak point of the car. We'll see what happends with my 300 hp AWD car is a couple of weeks :>)

I have a TL-P with I/H/E and raced a SL from a roll I barely walked away from it. The type-s should have no problem.
