the Jetta is a Chicks car, along with the Golf.
But hey at least they are built properly right?
There was only 800,000 VW's recalled last week but hey, just like you said I'm sure the internal compoinents of your engine will hold 400hp. IF THE AXLES HOLD UP!!!!!
Buy the way your car looks stock.

I'd drive a jetta, but then I'd have to remove my penis and gay it up with some hello kitty stickers (or maybe a Roxy sticker).
seriously though, everyone has their own preferences, but a jetta really is a girl's car.

If you think they are so unreliable, I am sure you know that the worlds fastest 1.8T MKIV VW traped at 128mph in the 1/4 on completely stock untouched tranny, differential, axles, and a motor that was stock and untouched from the valve cover to the oil pan........and it was street legal.
Any TL-S owners trapping 128mph yet? How about on stock internals, and drivetrain?

Dont know if we can claim a 128mph TL-S, but you're claiming our cars are so slow when we have TL-S/CL-S's running 14.2 completely N/A (with I/H/E)... this is for autos too. With some more minor bolt ons (pulleys, Unichip ECU?) I'm pretty sure a TL-S could match your 14.1 with no problems. I'm no expert on Jetta's but I'd assume you're running a manual transmission right?
If you wanna compare turbo'ed/manual tranny numbers, a Turbo'ed CL-S 6spd was able to run a 12.930 @ 111.87 ... No intercooler, just a turbo and some simple tweaking of the turbo. No ECU tweaks or anything ... With more tweaking and maybe an intercooler I'll bet the CL-S 6spd could reach/surpass the 128mph 1/4 mile that you're talking about...
Not trying to disrespect the Jetta at all. Every car has its pros/cons. The TL-S obviously has some transmission problems, but for what it is at ~$30K, its a pretty damn good value for what you get inside and in terms of the engine. A stock 260hp/232 ft/lbs engine ain't too shabby coming straight from the manufacturer.
I know with Turbo'ed VW/Audis you get some pretty awesome gains from just a simple ECU swap. Thats definitely a sweet deal considering we need to spend $1000 just to get headers and about 32whp in the upper RPM range.
The only ECU (and its a piggyback) for the TL-S/CL-S is the Unichip right now and gains are only about 10-15whp although it is across the entire powerband.
Anyways, its probably all in good fun ... but you guys are going back and forth with Jetta vs. TL-S, when personally I'm just here as a car enthusiast. I own a TL-S so obviously thats what puts me on this board ... but I can still respect another car for its advantages.
BTW- Gotta give props for the stock looking car. I love the sleeper look ... There's definitely a ton of 'all show, no go' cars around.

tl = sport luxury sedan, not a race car. type s happens to be pretty quick for this category of vehicles, but if we wanted something fast we would have spent $30k + on a WRX or something.
but i kinda wish i bought a yellow beetle with the flower petal rims. then i'd be badass

I'm not ignorant, I know there are plenty of you out there that have fast typeS' but lets not go to the "quality built" argument when you are still trying to put all that power to the ground via such a $hitty transmission. I know a few of you that are on your 6th trannie on an '02 model. I think I'm made myself plenty clear
The one thing that NONE of you can argue is that Dubbers have way more fun! I've been to a couple of Acura meets and damn they're boring!

Sorry to break it to you buit the 800,000 cars recalled last week was because of a SNAPPING REAR AXLES, not failed window regualtors, but nice try.
How fast do you think you can go with out a axle? even if my trannie won't shift I'll still make it there!
p.s. I like your car. All fun buddy!!

But I know a bunch of people that hang with Capital RSX in this area because they put together some really good meets! I'm pretty sure I've caught some VW/Audi's hanging out with us

Don't hate because your driving something your dad bought you. OR he bought an even more expensive acura and passed his "baby" to you.

Show me some info, I've never heard of any snapping rear axle, maybe your confusing VWs with ACURAs?

This was definitely very interesting to read...so now that Raf had his fun, I want to add an input into this.
First on the who's faster deal. I will be the first to admit that us TL-S drivers are a bit snubbish and think we are faster then many on the road...which we are, especially a Jetta, but to be honest, when Raf's Jetta can smoke me (which I fear will be very soon) I will have to give him the due respect. I think every car company has a problem with something, so why are we pointing at specific problems? VW's may have a problem with their Axles and we have a problem with our tranny...I think we point at other car company problems to mask the fact we have problems of our own. As for meets? Sorry guys, but our kinda suck compared to VW meets. Even last year, I invited EVERYONE from Aworld, CL and this site and there was only an average of 4 people that showed up with Acura's!!! Sure I had fun, but damn....only 4?? I think our best showing was 6 Acura's, gotta admit that's sad when VW has over 50 cars that show up EVERY week!

It was announced last week it was all the way back to 1996!!!
Don't worry I don't think it effected your Jetta's it was a recall for the AUDI A4's, A6's and the Passat's.
It def was an axle recall, not sure front or back, but it was announced during the morning news here in Toronto.
Funny thing was - Later that same day - I saw a Honda Pilot with a snapped front axle - he was in my lane coming up to some train tracks - he must have flew over them and when landing - SNAP - he slid all the way into my lane!! Thought it was a flat tire , then I saw the wheel facing fowards, under the front bumper!!
- Serious Respect on that picture - It looks like a fricken add for VW!

Here is an article on the Recall
http://www.mlive.com/newsflash/michi...2355207680.xml
The recall is to examine rubber boots on the front axles, which can get damaged and in some cases cause failure of the bearing arm, Volkswagen said.

I bought this car because it was the best of all worlds. I could afford a near-lux car, and wanted navi, leather, etc.
The thing that sold me on the TL-S is that it excells in EVERY category. I don't know about you, but my driving moods change from day to day. On some days I want a fast car that pushes me into the the seat. On other days I want a luxury car that can cruise in comfort with excellent amenities. On top of that, I love having a car that I can NEVER get lost in. (although that's one good excuse gone down the crapper...)
As far as meets go - who cares. I didn't buy a car to meet people. It's personalized transportation that fits my whim every day of the week.
