I really like the look of the older Lexus and some of the older TL's which have the two tone look. Upper body is one color such as DWP and rocker panels and bumpers are silver metallic. Anybody think this would be good if we had car painted this way
I really like that look too, but it depends on the car. The important things to remember are how the sight lines will look, and where you start to blend the paint, or just have a solid line. The TL is not set up nicely to have a straight line job with the way the lower cladding is. If you did a blend job, it would look really nice, depending on the color combo.
My favorite: Met. Apple red top blended intoa deep Anthracite bottom. Damn, almost better than sex! (OK, not even close, but it sounds good!

I don't think it's good idea because we don't have big cladding moulding on our car. When you look at two toned car, there are big cladding mouldings that are different color from the original body color. It looks good with 2 tone because it's seperate piece fron the body. If you paint the lower section of the car without any of mouldings, it will look bad because of the section where the two colors meet. That's why some of 2 tone cars have chrome mouldings in between of two colors.

I like 2-tone cars but it must be done right. For instance on the Older Benz's and Lexus's the gray bottom was on the lower body panel which someone stated earlier is a seperate part. In other words the lower body panel added ONE Line to the body of the car seperating the color of the car and the lower panel perfectly.
Cars that have 2-tone but a molding strip to seperate the 2 colors look tacky and added in my opinion.
For instance check out an old E or S-class Benz, LS or ES Lex and then look at the 2 tone Legend/RL or Camry and you'll see the difference.

I personally think the present TL would look crappy in 2 tone, however the Lexus ES300 with a black body and light grey cladding from the centre of the doors down looked great IMHO. However I would never buy a Lexus, as just like their cousin cars, Toyota, they are way overpriced, despite their refinement. Also I just love the way Hondas handle, and I always find Toyota interiors extremely boring.
