Angry Twas the night before X-mas...when I lost my tranny!

Well...it finally happened, exactly a week after I got the Acura mailing extending my warranty....my transmission in my 2000 TL dies at 60,000. Luckily, I was able to get a Land Rover as a loaner so that I can go home for the holidays. Since they haven't even ordered the transmission and with the holidays coming up, who knows how long I'll be without my baby!!

The thing that pisses me off the most about this tranny issue is that it can happen at anytime.

It would be better if you knew that if you got to 20k miles then you had a good one. But these damn things can blow at 80 miles or 80,000!

I was talking to the customer service rep and he told me that my transmission fluid was all burned up. He told me that Acura recommends you replace the transmission fluid every 15,000 instead of what the scheduled maintenance calls out for, which is every 30,000. I wonder if anybody still has tranny failures if you replace the transmission fluid every 15,000??

i think i read somewhere on this forum with a guy changing his transmission oil every 10k and it still blew at 30k. Good luck with your car though. That sucks so much.

I have 2001 CL, I have 24K miles, changed fluid at 15K. Everything is fine so far.

Changing fluid every 15K miles will make your transmission live longer, that's for sure ( that's why Honda recommends it -- less expenses to them ). But the reality is, our transmissions are POS, and changing transmission fluid every 15K miles will only REDUCE your chances.... but does not solve the problem... just a way to save money for Honda ( have fewer replacements ).
We probably should not change transmission fluid till 30K, this way the tranny will die faster....

I had Toyota Camry 89, I drove it from 80K miles till 190K miles without ever changing transmission fluid.... the fluid was black.
The transmission was working perfectly!

its first time I hear that any manufacture makes you chane trany fluid every 15K miles, this is some kind of BS....

Changed my fluid @ 15k, and at 30k. The 1st tranny went @ 37,008 and the 2nd one at 37,180!!! (two days apart). I am now the happy owner of a CLS 6spd.

Goodbye slushbox!!!

Funny title, but this is far from funny, I know this x2. However, I had warning of pre-slippage beforehand. I knew it was coming.

I changed mine at 7k, and the tranny blew at 9.1k. Changing to fluid doesn't help.

sucks big time.. sorry to hear that..

How does the car feel when the tranny is slipping? I'm not sure exactly what it means or what to look out for..

You just find when the gears are changing, particularily between 2nd and 3rd, that it takes longer to shift and the engine revs higher than normal during the gear changes. You will know if it happens.

Sorry to hear about that $hit.

I changed my tranny fluid at 30K and at 60K. So far so good on my 99 TL (knock on wood).
