Has anyone ever tried to do this with factory parts?

 

I'm guessing this would involve replacement of the whole center console, so no, probably not.
You'd be better off trading the car in if you really wanted this, or buying an Alpine or similar headunit that has a popup navi screen; while requiring fabrication, I'm sure it would be possible.

LOL I thought this was in the Third gen forum... now that would seem very hard. 2nd gen ok, I guess you can do it. It wouldn't be my choice of weekend project though.
